Slated for a May 2018 release, the Star Wars spin-off just fired its directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller in the midst of production, citing ‘creative differences’.

The film has been shooting in London since February and with several weeks left to shoot, along with reshoots scheduled thereafter, it was reported that the filmmakers who previously helmed comedies ’21 Jump Street” and “The Lego Movie” were fired from the Star Wars movie.

As of now, there is no confirmation as to who will take over the reins of the film, but rumour has it that Ron Howard and Joe Johnston are possible contenders to replace the duo.

Reported by Variety, their exit comes after months of conflict with producer Kathleen Kennedy, others from her Lucasfilm team, and co-writer and executive producer Lawrence Kasdan, and the two directors.

"Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon," Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said Tuesday in a statement.

"Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project," a statement from Lord and Miller read. "We normally aren’t fans of the phrase 'creative differences' but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.”

The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo, with Woody Harrelson as his mentor, Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke and Thandie Newton.
