After a call for submissions in February, the National Youth Film Awards (NYFA) 2017 has announced its nominees in a media conference on June 22. Presented by *SCAPE and the National Youth Council (NYC), the annual short film competition, now in its third run, is open to young filmmakers from local Institutes of Higher Learning, as they compete in 23 categories including Best Picture and Best Overall School.
The conference also featured four films that made the nominee list: Best Picture nominees 'Changi' and 'Red', Best Aminated Film nominee 'Aisles of Adventure', and Best Documentary Film nominee 'Unveiled'. The filmmakers of these films shared with the audience the inspirations behind their work as well as the challenges that occurred during the production process.

The public can also watch and vote for their favourite films by non-media students here. Voters will stand a chance of winning a S$300 Scoot gift voucher.
Besides the film competition, a two-day NYFA Weekend is happening on 30 June and 1 July featuring activities such as talks, workshops, and screenings. Additionally, from 22 June to 30 July, visitors will have the chance to have a look at two iconic sets from 2016 NYFA Best Picture and Best Direction winner 'Han'. The sets were recreated by Julie Heather Liew, the film's production designer. Visitors can Instagram and hashtag their photos of the sets with #SCAPEnyfa and stand to win a $100 Scoot gift voucher.
