At Raffles City yesterday, our favourite mouse, Mickey Mouse, turned up to celebrate the opening of Singapore's first "Mickey Go Local" campaign.
The campaign is co-organised by The Walt Disney company and Raffles City to celebrate both Mickey Mouse's 90th anniversary and Singapore's 53rd birthday.
The "Mickey Go Local" campaign aims to mark Mickey's 90th birthday as well as to celebrate Singapore's rich and diverse cultural heritage.
Local celebrities such as Mediacorp thespians Felicia Chin and Li Nanxing, singers Nathan Hartono and JJ Lin, as well as professionals from different industries were invited to design a blank 60cm-tall Mickey Mouse figurine.
Even President Halimah Yacob designed her own Mickey Mouse figurine, which she unveiled to an very excited crowd.
Each of the Mickey Mouse design aims to celebrate an aspect of our local culture and heritage.
President Halimah Yacob's Mickey Mouse wears the President's Challenge heart-shaped logo on the left side of its chest and also has the stars of the Singapore flag.
Li Nanxing's Mickey Mouse is inspired by local food, in particular, satay and ketupat. A "Good Morning" towel wrapped around his neck, Li's Mickey Mouse holds sticks of satay and ketupat on one hand, and a fan on the other.
CapitaLand Hope Foundation will also donate up to $300,000 to the President's Challenge 2018, including $10,000 for Madam Halimah's figurine, and $2,000 each for the other 89 figurines.
As a universal symbol of love and happiness, this is definitely something Mickey will get behind.
The figurines will be on display from Aug 1 to Aug 29 at the Raffles City mall, as part of its Arts in the City campaign.
In addition, for every photo with the figurines that you upload to Instagram with the hashtags #RCSArtsintheCityPC, #Mickey90, #MickeyGoLocal, #CapitaLand and #CHFPC, CapitaLand Hope Foundation will donate $10 per hashtag to the President's Challenge 2018.
