Long-awaited 'The Shining' sequel, 'Doctor Sleep', is finally coming to cinemas

When Stephen King's 'Doctor Sleep', the sequel to 'The Shining', was published in 2013, Warner Brothers began to develop a screenplay based on the book.

But for years, 'Doctor Sleep' struggled to find financing. It was only until the box office success of 'It', an adaptation of King's novel of the same name, that led Warner Brothers to quickly greenlight the film for production. And now, it's finally ready.

In 'Doctor Sleep', young Danny Torrance from 'The Shining' has grown up.

Played by Ewan McGregor, Danny is still coping with the traumatic events of his childhood. He's struggling with a drinking problem; alcohol is the only thing that can keep his power at bay.

Danny meets Abra Stone (Kyliegh Curran), a young girl who also has the power of 'the shining'. From her, Danny discovers the existence of other people like them and learns that a mysterious group called True Knot, led by Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), is hunting and feeding on children with the shining.

Teaming up with Abra, Danny decides to confront Rose the Hat and, most importantly, his own fears and trauma, leading him to call upon his powers as never before.

Fans can look forward to the multiple references to Stanley Kubrick's 'The Shining'. In the trailer, we can already see the old woman in the bathtub of room 237, the Grady twins in the hallway, the iconic blood tidal wave flowing from the elevator, and of course, REDRUM.

'Doctor Sleep' will come to cinemas in Singapore in November.
