Disney Has Given Free Access To Hotstar For Our Migrant Workers
By Chen Shun / 05 May 2020 (Tuesday)
To support our migrant worker community during this difficult period, the Walt Disney Company announced on May 2 that they will enable their streaming platform, hotstar, to be made free until 21 July.
Migrant workers will be able to use the streaming service immediately to gain access to a huge variety of content including a huge number of blockbuster movies, cricket matches, Star India TV shows and live news on their mobile phones.
Hotstar is supported in 9 languages for most of its movies and TV shows, and the service is free for all migrant workers until Jul 21, 2020. Do note that the Hotstar application is currently available on Android phones via Google Play Store but Disney said in a statement that they will step up their efforts so that the application will be made available for iPhone soon as well.
“We are honoured to work with the government to bring Hotstar to migrant workers in Singapore. In these unprecedented challenging times, we humbly hope that by offering the workers content that speaks their language and reach their hearts, we can help lift their spirits and bring some moments of comfort and inspiration.”
- Uday Shankar, President of the Walt Disney Company APAC and Chairman, Star & Disney India
Hotstar is currently catered to migrant workers for the time being but it will soon be available for subscription to other Singapore residents.
