5 actors who could play Static Shock in the live action movie!

We might be getting a Static Shock movie sooner than we think!

At a DC FanDome panel on Saturday, filmmaker Reginald Hudlin said there’s been “serious conversations” about bringing the electric-powered teen hero to the big screen.

Virgil Hawkins, a.k.a. Static Shock, was created by Milestone Media and DC Comics in the 1990s and starred in a Kids’ WB animated series in the early 2000s. The series received multiple Daytime Emmy award nominations and is still highly regarded by fans for being one of the few superhero series starring a Black character. The character was played by voice actor Phil LaMarr.

While we keep our fingers crossed and hope for this film to come to fruition, we've gone ahead and shortlisted some potential actors who could take on the role! Check them out below:

John Boyega

Boyega is on the rise in the Hollywood scene and he shouldn't be stopped anytime soon! Having left the Star Wars franchise behind him after 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Boyega could be looking for a new franchise to sink his teeth into so why not the DCEU? He's proven to be able to do action so we know he is more than capable of taking on the role of a superhero. He may be way past his years to play the 14 year old Virgil Hawkins but we're sure that can be adjusted.

Shameik Moore

Moore is the voice of Miles Morales in the highly-acclaimed animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, so he's no stranger to superheroes! His performance as Miles Morales has us convinced that this 25 year old has what it takes to play a convincing teenager. It should be a non-issue for him to be cast as another teenage superhero since his Spider-Man role is only an animated one.

Jaden Smith

Smith is probably the most fan-casted actor out of everyone else on our list. Just look up 'Static Shock fan casting' on Google and you'll see his face plastered everywhere and we know why. He's got the look and physique down and despite already being in his 20s, he could easily pass for a highschooler.

Caleb McLaughlin

The Stranger Things star is slowly but surely finding his way into movies, much like the rest of his fellow cast members. He's yet to play the lead in a feature film of his own so a live-action Static Shock film might just be the best first feature for this young talent.

Chosen Jacobs

Jacobs is best known for his recurring role as Will Grover on the television series Hawaii Five-0 and his role as Mike Hanlon in the 2017 film adaptation of the Stephen King novel It, and its follow-up It Chapter Two. It's only about time this teenager gets a film of his own to star in.
