Apple Original Films has acquired the rights to Cherry, the heist movie MCU directors Joe and Anthony Russo made with their Spider-Man, Tom Holland.

Cherry is based on a novel by Nico Walker and is the story of a former Army medic who returned from Iraq with extreme undiagnosed PTSD, fell into opioid addiction and began robbing banks. The film is directed by the Russos and is co-written by Angela Russo-Otstot and Jessica Goldberg. It also stars Ciara Bravo, Jack Reynor, Michael Gandolfini, Kyle Harvey and Thomas Lennon.

Joe and Anthony Russo made household names for themselves when they were first hired to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Their success then led to them helming 3 more major MCU films - Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Holland who has worked with the directors in the MCU films has also appeared in films such as Disney & Pixar's Onward and Netflix's The Devil All the Time which is currently available on the streaming site.

Cherry will be released on Apple TV+ in early 2021.
