Films to Stream on HBO GO this June

By InCinemas  /  01 Jun 2022 (Wednesday)

From non-stop action to intense crime drama, two star-studded films steal the spotlight on Saturdays this month on HBO GO!

Experience the explosive comedy Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek and revel in Matt Damon’s Stillwater that shines a spotlight on family, forgiveness and unconditional love, only on HBO GO Saturday, June 11 and Saturday, June 18 respectively.

Sequel to 2017’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard, the riotous comedy Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard brings the world’s most lethal odd couple – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) back on another life-threatening mission. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek).

As Bryce and his two most dangerous protectees embark on a brain-rattling road trip down Italy’s Amalfi Coast, they encounter exploding briefcases, Italian mobsters, Russian gangsters, car chases, bar brawls, explosions, shoot outs, a little light torture and overall just general pandemonium. Getting in over their heads in a global plot, the unlikely trio are unwillingly forced into saving Europe - with Interpol Agent Bobby O’Neill (Frank Grillo) - from a rich and powerful zealot, Aristotle Papadopoulos (Antonio Banderas), a dangerous man with an over-developed sense of national pride and a disturbing personal need for vengeance.

Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is directed by Patrick Hughes and written by Tom O’Connor. Stream it exclusively on HBO GO this June 11.

From Oscar winning director Tom McCarthy comes a powerful and moving suspense film – Stillwater.  The crime thriller follows Bill Baker (Academy Award® winner Matt Damon), an unemployed single father and oil rig roughneck from Oklahoma whose life is marred by drug and alcohol abuse. Intent on making up for his past mistakes and Baker travels to Marseille, France, to visit his estranged daughter Allison (Academy Award® nominee Abigail Breslin), who is serving a nine-year prison sentence for the murder of her girlfriend Lena, a crime she insists she did not commit.

When Allison shares a new tip that could exonerate her - which is subsequently rebuffed by their lawyer - Bill takes matters into his own hands and makes it his personal mission to find the real culprit, a man Allison has identified as Akim. Confronted with language barriers and cultural differences, Bill is outmatched until he strikes up an unlikely friendship with French actress Virginie (Camille Cottin) and her young daughter Maya (Lilou Siauvaud).

As he combs the streets of Marseille searching for the proverbial needle in a haystack, Bill finds himself on an unexpected path, growing ever closer to Virginie and Maya. It’s a journey of self-discovery and liberation from a life that long seemed preordained. Yet when his need to prove his daughter’s innocence collides with his commitment to Virginie and Maya, Bill is left with difficult choices that not only threaten to destroy his new life, but also his last shot at redemption.

Stillwater is directed by Tom McCarthy, and written by McCarthy & Marcus Hinchey and Thomas Bidegain & Noé Debré. Exclusively on HBO GO this June 18.
