Screen legend Cheng Pei Pei wows a 500-strong crowd with her Kung Fu Moves at SingTel mio TV Launch Event last Saturday, 14 January 2012.
Spotted at the atrium of Causeway Point shopping mall was a 500-strong crowd that roused to the arrival of Cheng Pei Pei in the afternoon. The multi-award winning Shaw Brothers star arrived with a clean-shaven head that amazed the shoppers. Cheng is in Singapore to promote the launch of
Celestial Classic Movies on SingTel’s mio TV
.
Best known for her reputation as the “Queen of Swords” in Chinese classics such as Golden Swallow, Dragon Swamp and The Lady Hermit, Cheng delighted the crowd by relating some of her past filming experiences of the Shaw films.
Three young lucky participants were handpicked to interact with Cheng in close proximity. They struck poses based on Cheng’s iconic breakthrough film
Come Drink With Me
and were rewarded with exclusive launch goodie bags from Celestial Classic Movies and SingTel mio TV.
The highlight of the afternoon was Cheng’s Calligraphy showcase. Four shoppers from the crowd were picked by the emcees to decipher the Chinese characters written by Cheng. Two of them emerged as winners and were presented with Calligraphy works pre-written by Cheng.
Cheng also spontaneously exhibited her iconic Kung Fu poses during the launch event. The enthusiasm and warm reception Cheng received prove beyond doubt that she is still a hit amongst the young and old.
“I’ve watched Cheng Pei Pei’s movies since I was a little girl. It’s great that Celestial Classic Movies help to bring these classic Chinese films back, reminding me of the good old days”, said Susan Lim, a 50-year-old housewife and long-time supporter of Cheng Pei Pei.
The event ended with 88 lucky people receiving goodie bags as well as photo opportunities with Cheng. In addition, Cheng distributed ang baos to the crowd in light of the Chinese New Year spirit.
Catch Cheng’s iconic films such as Come Drink With Me, Dragon Swamp, The Lady Hermit and more on Celestial Classic Movies on both
Starhub Cable TV
and SingTel mio TV (from February onwards) platforms.
