Meet Yuji Koroki (Satoshi Tsumabuki) 33 years old, socially inept magazine editor and Okuda Tamio fan; He is also hopeless with women. He meets Akari (Kiko Mizuhara), an extremely attractive PR representative for a fashion brand. Koroki falls hard for her and miraculously got hooked up with her after his first proposal. But, that’s where both heaven and hell breaks loose.

Though Yuji Koroki’s character based on the typical anti-social protagonist, he is not as spineless compared to his stereotypical counterparts. Satoshi Tsumabuki’s expertise in fleshing out the dramatic heartbreak scenes, though excessive, adds to the element of comedy.

Hitoshi One play on the editorial office and each character’s occupation quirks in Tornado Girl is spot on. Like the freelance writer who tries to get secure writing gigs, the popular columnist that barely meets the deadline, and the roles of the junior editor, editor and chief editor. This blend is further enhanced with Akari, who plays the role of the PR representative who not only twist Koroki around her finger but the whole office.

Tornado Girl is one roller coaster that nobody wins, and only the lovers lose. Each character suffered the consequences of their own actions. For Koroki, it is only though his experience with Akari that allows him to develop from a shy man-child into a famous and attractive adult. The story also brings us back to that every scene Koroki admires about Okuda Tamio when he spills Soba soup on his coat, which summarized his graduation from being a shy man-child to an influential player in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Our Verdict
Tornado Girl is a terrible measure of a love story, but an entertaining journey of discovery. The show takes the essence of a raunchy love story and ridicules it to a point that it is hilariously entertaining. There are many heart fluttering scenes followed by erotic scenes designed to toss logic out of the window. If the trailer has smitten you, then there is no excuse to give this a miss.
