Deadpool (the first one) caught us with our pants down. It was crazy, crude, witty, and everyone found a new Marvel super hero to love – it was a breath of fresh air. Deadpool 2 takes all that then turns it up a notch.
After a personal setback, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) gets invited to join the X-Men by Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) as a trainee. Being the anti-hero, the motormouth merc has managed to talk a simple mission to utter disaster, setting the premise of the plot to save Russell (Julian Dennison) from Cable (Josh Brolin).
X-Men didn’t quite work out for the trigger-happy Deadpool and the series of events led him to rescue the emotionally troubled Russell, from a time-travelling cyborg soldier. We can’t help noticing the similarity with a more clothed time traveller than the Terminator. But popular culture references don’t stop coming when Cable is referred to as Thanos, at least once by the foul month merc before going on with puns about the DC Universe, Ryan Reynolds and many others throughout the whole movie. Realizing that he is of no match to Cable and his weapons from the future, Deadpool heads to LinkedIn put together a team of oddballs called X-Force. That’s where we get introduced to Zazie Beetz's Domino who is just lucky. While Deadpool is quick to dismiss how undramatic her powers are on screen, she managed to pull off one of the most explosive fight scenes in the movie. That, coupled with X-Force’s shenanigans and embarrassing exit makes up one of the best moments in the movie.
With two movies under his belt, maybe it’s time for Deadpool to start his own X-mutant team. This is after all a family movie, right?
On a side note: stay until the end of the movie. With post-credits scenes becoming a thing with movies today and Deadpool 2 is of no exception. It ends the most hilarious and fantastic scenes that give the recent MCU movies a run for their money.
Watch out Thanos, Deadpool’s coming.
