The programme features a diverse selection of recent Singapore short films, from documentaries to animation and experimental work, with post-screening discussion with the filmmakers. This year’s edition gazes back at the history of short filmmaking in Singapore with a rare collection of films made in the 1980s at the Singapore Video Competition organised by the People’s Association and the Singapore Cine and Video Club. The special screening spotlights a quiet period in the history of short filmmaking in Singapore by reframing a community of filmmakers who found a medium for expression through grassroots efforts and the growing accessibility of video cameras in the 80s.
(More information and screening schedule at National Museum website!)
Singapore Short Cuts 2013 also features the short films of Singaporean filmmaker Anthony Chen, who recently won the Caméra d'Or at the 66th Cannes Film Festival for his feature film Ilo Ilo. Anthony will be present for an intimate dialogue session with the audience, where he will look back at his past works and discuss how his accumulated experiences shaped his development as a filmmaker.
