Over 1200 Singaporeans attended the inaugural Shine Singapore Charity Concert held at Esplanade Concert Hall! The love of Singapore sung through the tunes and rhythm of Lorraine Tan. Find out more after the jump!
Shine Singapore Charity Concert is the brainchild of local singer and songwriter, Lorraine Tan. The concert is part of the "My Singapore" project that was started in 2011 with the aim of using music to bring people together for a charity cause.
Every year, the project hopes to help families and children from the lower-income bracket to fulfil their basic needs. All proceeds from her album and merchandise sales went to charity.
This year, the project garnered the support of CapitaLand Hope Foundation as the presenting charity sponsor of the concert.
The 1.5-hour concert saw Lorraine, together with her 15-piece band, serenaded the audience with a total of more than 15 songs, which included the theme song of this year's project, Shine Singapore.
Lorraine also invited students from different schools on stage to talk about their culture, and wishes for Singapore. Apart from that, she also sang popular oldies and classics, dedicating all to her parents, seated among the audiences.
The audience were pumped up as Korean pop star, Shin Min Chul from T-Max, brought the heat by singing the famous theme song of Boys Over Flowers (Korean version), Paradise. Shin, a personal friend of Lorraine Tan, flew specially to Singapore to show his support for the charity concert.
In addition, they also sang a duet, to the delight of fans who were seen cheering and supporting their Kpop idol during his performances. Seeing an international star holding up our Singapore flag, a sense of national pride was definitely in me.
The concert ended on a high note with Lorraine and 100 students from six different schools singing this year's theme song and one of our national songs, Count on Me, Singapore.
Proceeds from the concert were donated to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.
