The drama portrays the world of these Dark Age
raiders, traders, explorers – not from an outsider’s view, but, through
the eyes of Viking society. Michael Hirst, of award winning movie, Elizabeth, as well as hit series The Tudors and Camelot fame, directs this immersive nine-part series that revisits the extraordinary tales and adventures of this seafaring Norse people, while unraveling the story of family and brotherhood through the journey of Viking warrior Ragnar Lothbrok (played by Travis Fimmel), the first of his kind to emerge from Norse legend and onto the pages of history.
Synopsis
Vikings follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a curious, compelling man who is always looking
to break through barriers and discover new worlds to conquer. With the
help of his jester friend Floki, (Gustaf Skarsgard), they
build a new generation of boats – faster, sleeker and more beautifully
crafted than anything else on the sea.
The series will also delve into
how the Vikings – the last pagans – worshipped ancient gods like Odin,
Thor, Freya and Loki. Ragnar claims to be a direct descendant of the
Norse god Odin, who, as well as being the god of warriors slain in
battle, is also the god of curiosity.
Vikings is no doubt a drama for the males to enjoy; filled with conflict, warfare and bloodshed themes. As a young farmer and family man, Ragnar is deeply
frustrated by the unadventurous policies of his local chieftain and embarks on an epic journey to satisfy his curiosity as to what lies beyond his village. He fights to protect his men, hunts to keep alive, but ultimately puts his family at heart.
An historical eye-opener that shows how ambition and innovation can rattle a civilization. Their methods for survival are cruel and destructive, but holds a soft spot for humanity. If watching a group of warriors battle for survival is what you like, then Vikings is the one you should not miss!
