Director Chen Yu-Hsun ‘Comeback’ Film after 16 Years!
By InCinemas / 12 Oct 2013 (Saturday)
It’s been 16 years since we last saw Chen Yu-Hsun on the director’s chair for a feature film and this time, he makes a comeback with Zone Pro Site: The Moveable Feast which is still going strong in terms of box-office sales in Taiwan.
“It was not until these few years when I realised there were much to be explored in Taiwan, and the first thing I thought of was ‘ban doh’ (traditional outdoor banquet),” said Chen during a press conference held at Hotel Fort Canning yesterday.
Besides Chen, producer Lee Lieh, actors Tony Yang Yo-Ning and Lin Mei-Hsiu also made a trip down to Singapore as part of the movie’s promotional tour. They will be having a fan-meet this evening, 5pm at Bugis Junction.

The film not only talked about the fading tradition of ‘ban doh’, but some of the dishes featured were actually long forgotten recipes. Producer Lee said, “It is also because of this movie that people are starting to look for these neglected dishes. They want to eat it!”
Some of these dishes included Chicken Belly Turtle, Hokkien Fried Noodles and exquisite traditional catering dishes. When asked about which dish best represented them, actress Lin said the ‘Leftover Stew’ soup dish felt like it suited her the most.
“The leftover stew is made up of different yet simple ingredients and when you put them together, it becomes such a delicious soup! It feels like the different stages of my life, all mixed together to become who I am today,” she continued.
For Yang, he chose the ‘Scrambled Tomato and Egg’, another highlighted dish featured in the film. Just like the reasoning behind this chosen food in Zone Pro Site, Yang said, “It’s a simple dish and every mother knows how to cook it, but the end product will all be different. I think of my own mother and her signature dish ‘beautiful egg’ when I see the scrambled tomato and egg.”
Though clocking nearly two-and-a-half hours long, Zone Pro Site: The Moveable Feast has been doing very well in box-office sales in Taiwan and internationally.
Chen even shared that a little girl took a picture and posted online of all her 13 movie ticket stubs, showing her support of this film as she brought along her parents and relatives to catch it together.
“We tried to cut it down to a 120-minute film, but we watched it and it didn’t look good, so we then added more scenes to make it interesting,” Chen added
Due to the tremendous surge in sales and support, Lee said that a prequel might be on the way where the focus should be on the senior chefs who had small featured roles in this film.
