Sentosa Spooktacular transports visitors into the world of Thai Horror Movies

Singapore, 17 October 2013 ― Paving the way for a new experience in the Asian Horror genre, Sentosa’s signature Halloween event, Sentosa Spooktacular 2013, kicks the horror-o-meter up by unveiling its five most realistic horror trails to date, designed to transport visitors into the world of Thai horror films.

The once-familiar passageways and underground areas of Fort Siloso warp into scenes from Thailand’s most horrifying movies complete with larger-than-life props, elaborate landscape designs and lifelike figures never before seen in reality.

In the inaugural collaboration between Sentosa and renowned movie production studio GMM Tai Hub Co. Ltd. (GTH), Sentosa Spooktacular takes visitors through the stories of international acclaimed films such as Coming Soon, Shutter, Body, Dorm and Pee Mak. Upping the game with interactive components, visitors no longer simply walk through a haunted trail, but steady themselves through the dark twisted tales of five Thai ghosts as they embark on missions to lift the spell that plagues them all.

Fans of Thai horror films will immediately recognise iconic ghosts from the five films – a spiteful starlet Chaba from Coming Soon, vengeful ex-girlfriend Natre from Shutter, resentful chopped-up victim Dararai from Body, faithful wife Nak from Pee Mak who does not believe in “death do us apart”, and angry child spirit Wichien from Dorm.

The immersive experience for visitors this year translates from the perspective of a cinema patron watching on-screen to being inside the storyline, enhanced with factors that will trigger all five senses of sight, smell, sound, touch and even the dry taste of fear experienced by the human body. Details including the natural settings of Fort Siloso, incense sticks, and the combined use of different materials such as wood, metal, urethane, and latex for props delivered at precise timings for an intense scare experience.

Following ten months of work from idea conceptualization to the final touches of the trails, the five Thai film directors of the Thai horror movies will see their movies come to life this October at Sentosa Spooktacular. The event will be open to the public on 19th, 20th, 25th, 26th and 31st October; 1st and 2nd November 2013.

High-quality props and larger-than-life figures turn movie scenes into real-life experiences

Said Mr. Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, Senior Director of International Business for GTH[1], “Sentosa Spooktacular is a good platform which allows us to work with a veteran in Halloween events such as Sentosa, to repackage these stories as horror trails for international visitors to heighten their Halloween experience in Asia. Taking visitors from cinematic to reality horror was also a way of injecting new life into these popular spine-chilling Thai stories. Months of site visits, props design, set building and walkthroughs by both teams have translated into five memorable experiences that visitors can look forward to.”

Mr. David Goh, Senior Divisional Director, Sentosa Leisure Management, added, “Raising the bar for a more immersive experience was our promise to Halloween fans who wanted more each year they return. Sentosa Spooktacular 2013 is the first Halloween event to convert Asian horror films into reality walkthroughs for guests, and this reflects the maturing of the Halloween events industry as people seek experiences that pander to the universal fear of the unknown. Sentosa Spooktacular’s increased production value and authentic Asian horror elements address our visitors’ desires to give themselves a genuine scare, and have a good time going through it.”

1 Mr. Yongyoot Thongkongtoon’s cinematic experience include his role as producer in Thai horror hits Dorm (2006), Alone (2007), Body (2007), 4BIA (2008), Coming Soon (2008), and Phobia 2 (2009).
