Aku Tak Bodoh Gala Premiere at GV Marina!
By InCinemas / 13 Apr 2011 (Wednesday)
Remember ‘I Not Stupid’ by Jack Neo back in 2002, where it relates to many Singaporeans about the streaming of EM1, EM2 and EM3 in our education system? Well, I Not Stupid is back again! But this time, in a Malay version titled Aku Tak Bodoh, slated to open this coming Thursday 14 April 2011! Directed by Boris Boo, with Jack Neo as the Executive Producer of the film, this movie continues to tell us the importance of family love and the relationship between the working parents and neglected children.
“The main story [of Aku Tak Bodoh] is still similar of that in I Not Stupid, only that the way it’s portrayed to relate to the Malay culture. As such, the dialogues and the content are designed to tell of the Malay society,” Boris shares with InCinemas during the Gala screening of Aku Tak Bodoh at GV Marina on 11 April. “This movie allows me to have more interaction with the Malay culture. If the [Box Office] result is good, it tells us not to neglect our Malay friends and hopefully we will have more movies as local productions together in future.”
“When Jack first asked me to direct this Malay movie, I told him that I can’t even count 1 to 10 in Malay,” Boris reminisces. It was tough for him as he doesn’t understand the Malay language. “So I work closely with the Malay writers and have the lines translated in English at the side of the Malay script. I will call ‘action!’ but will not know what they are actually talking about. As such, there’s a number of funny moments when I shout ‘beautiful take’ but turns out that it isn’t because the lines are wrong.”
The cast present also includes the famous Malaysia actor and actress, Suhaimi Yusof and Adibah Noor. Addressing to the crowd which includes our Malay friends, the cast express their thanks for the audience’s kind support for taking time off to be here and hope that they will enjoy this wonderful movie as much as they do. Adibah also hopes that there will be more collaboration between Malaysia and Singapore, so we can change our perception of one another in a positive way as we are not that much different after all.
On his final note, Suhaimi feels that it’s as though history is repeating itself. “Do you know that before [the presence of] Shaw Brothers and Cathay-Keris Film, the first Malay movie in Singapore is directed by 2 Chinese directors. And today, we are going to repeat that history again.”
Aku Tak Bodoh opens InCinemas 14 April 2011.
