Della Ding Dang on Dreams and Determination!

They say to dream big is half the battle won. The road to stardom is never an easy one and Taiwan-based singer Della Ding Dang is no exception.
In town last week to promote her new album ‘Dare to Love’, the 31-year-old singer looked back on her career and life.
She started out her career during her teenage years as a pub singer before she got her big break in 2003 when she signed to Rock Records in Taiwan. Her fame rocketed in 2009 when she sang the theme song, ‘I Love You’ for Taiwanese idol drama ‘Autumn’s Concerto’. Thereafter, she was quickly known as the ‘queen of drama theme songs’ due her powerful vocal range.
Her journey started at the mere age of 18 where she packed her luggage and left home to pursue a music career in Taiwan. Looking back, Della shared it was probably the ‘most defiant’ thing she had done but has 'no regrets'. “I was very stubborn then, and just wanted to sing,” she chuckled.
For aspiring singers out there, one advice Della gives is to seize every opportunity to showcase yourself, adding: “There are all good phrases and experiences that you can learn from… I think small setbacks are essential for personal growth, improving on the flaws for a better performance the next time.”
During the interview, she admitted to often put on a brave front and prefers to face her problems alone.
“I’m not the kind of person who shares my sorrows with the people around me. I’m someone who hides in a corner to heal my wounds. In front of people, I’d put on a brave front.”
Besides channeling her unhappiness through her voice, the singer cited ‘travelling’ and ‘exercising’ as other good methods to relax and rejuvenate.
If you follow Della’s Weibo (China’s Twitter) account, you would be able to spot photos of her working out at a gym. After all, she was an athlete before embarking a career in music. One thing for sure, she believes in a constant exercise regime to keep her body in top form.
“If my work schedule is not too packed, I will hit the gym everyday. Otherwise I make it a point to attend workout classes at least two to three hours each visit,” she added.
