Highlights from the StarHub TVB Awards!

By InCinemas  /  14 Oct 2014 (Tuesday)
The glitz and glamour at the annual StarHub TVB Awards may be over and we’re definitely suffering the post-award, post-idol-gazing blues.

Read on for some of the highlights from the star-studded event!

[Red Carpet]

The hour-long red carpet, or shall we say, ‘green carpet’ segment was nothing short of a flashy show as some of the biggest names in TVB strutted down the walkway. They waved to their hoard of screaming fans and gamely posed for cameras before a short interview segment with the host. It is safe to say that the ladies stole the show with their colourful shiny gowns.

We’re no fashion gurus and no, we will not be starting a ‘fashion police-esque’ section at InCinemas, but we have to admit that we absolutely adored Eliza Sam’s yellow chiffon dress, Kate Tsui’s flesh-coloured pink bare-back gown and veteran actress Nancy Sit’s colourful, jewel-studded outfit, just to name a few.

[Ruco Chan - Baring it all]

Just a few minutes into the show, viewers were treated to a small little special surprise from rising A-lister Ruco Chan. The actor went on stage to receive his award for ‘My Favourite TVB Male TV Character’ for his role in Brother’s Keeper when host Carol Cheng asked him to take off his spectacles and hat as we don’t usually get to see that side of him.

The 37-year-old actor gamely accepted her request and even teased audiences as he slowly took each item out at a time, receiving roaring cheers when he revealed his ‘transformation’!

Still looking suave as ever Ruco!

[Linda Chung winning the ‘Red Carpet Star Award’]

One of the special non-acting award of the night was the ‘Red Carpet Star Award’, an award given to the best-dressed artiste of the night whom fans voted via the StarHub TV Buddy mobile application.

TVB starlet Linda Chung who donned a multi-coloured long floral dress won the award for the second year running. The highlight for that award presentation was to see the ex-beauty queen Chung in her classy ‘beauty queen wave’. Her fellow colleagues who had front-row seats cheered on for her where some even mimicked her animated hand motion.

[Performances by TVB Artistes]

It’s not every day do we get to see these Hong Kong actors in person, what more a song performance from them. Keeping in mind that most of these multi-talented artistes are triple threats, audiences that night were treated to a memorable show from Kristal Tin, Nancy Wu, Edwin Siu, Nancy Sit and Wong Cho Lam, Sharon Chan, Louis Cheung, and Rosina Lam, who sang ‘Really Want To Hate You’ from ‘Outbound Love’ which won the ‘My Favourite TVB Theme Song’.

Comedic duo, Nancy Sit and Wong Cho Lam had audience jumping off their seats, dancing to the beats as they sang ‘We Are Singapore’ with a group of students from Wellington Primary School. Sit and Wong even went down the stage to give out gifts in their own fashionable (and hilarious) way.

[Interaction with fans]

For this year’s award show, there were opportunities where fans had a chance to get up-close with their idols. The awards ceremony, for example, started with the 16 TVB artistes stationed at the two sides of the aisle of grand circle, walking among delightful audiences who were frantically snapping pictures of their idols.

In addition, four lucky audience members hit the jackpot as they got to take a group picture with all the TVB artistes present on that day. Imagine yourself with Charmaine Sheh, Kenneth Ma, Him Law and Kate Tsui, all in the same photo!

Viewers who wish to relieve the best moments of StarHub TVB Awards 2014 can catch the encore telecasts of the Red Carpet Special on 18 October at 8pm, and the Awards Presentation at 9pm on VV Drama (StarHub TV Channel 855).
