In the spirit of Halloween, here’s a look at some of our on-going and upcoming local horror films and TV series, specially for the horror buffs!
These films promise the scares, the chills and definitely the thrills! Happy reading and happy Halloween!
Afterimages
The locally-produced film by director Tony Kern which screened in Singapore last month, won the Best Feature Film at the recent Eerie Horror Film Festival in Pennsylvania, and the Best FX at the Thriller! Chiller! Film Festival in Michigan.
The Eerie Horror Film Festival is a 4-day celebration of independent cinema, and the Thriller! Chiller! Film Festival is Michigan’s premier film festival that celebrates thriller genre movies since 2006.
(Read our interview with director Tony Kern here!)
The special effects in Afterimages was designed and supervised by director Tony Kern who was supported by great enthusiasm and talent from students of Ngee Ann Polytechnic and First Media Design School; their roles included post-fx, rotoscoping and compositing.
Grace
(Find out more about the mini-series, Grace here!)
Relying on the psychology of fear, Grace takes a western approach towards the horror conventions of Asia, blending aspects of Asian supernatural mythology and traditions in the context of modern real-life scenarios to tell the story of a flawed man and his family.
The four-part horror mini series stars Russell Wong, Constance Song, Pamelyn Chee and George Young is produced by HBO Asia and is now showing on HBO.
Bring Back the Dead
Starring Jesseca Liu and Taiwanese actor-host Jacko Chiang,
Bring Back the Dead
is local filmmaker Lee Thean-Jean’s third feature after the release of
Homecoming
in 2011 and
Everybody’s Business
in 2013.
The movie revolves around Jia En (Jesseca Liu), a doting mother who loses her seven-year-old son in a tragic road accident. Beyond grief over her son’s death, she seeks the help of her former caregiver, Madam Seetoh (Liu Ling Ling), to bring back his soul so that he can be ‘by her side’. However, after several strange and deadly occurrences in the house, she begins to suspect that there is something amiss with the soul she has brought back. When she discovers the horrifying truth, it may be at the cost of her own life, as well as those around her.
Bring Back the Dead opens InCinemas 8 Jan 2014!
The Faith of Anna Waters
The Faith of Anna Waters
is an upcoming local Hollywood-horror film by Kelvin Tong that stars Elizabeth Rice from hit US TV series Mad Men, and Matthew Settle (Gossip Girl). The film’s story revolves around a young crime reporter who arrives in Singapore to investigate the mysterious murder of her sister.
The film is expected to be released next year.
