StarHub TV to Telecast Same-day Premiere of 'Misi Tawan Baby' as Malaysia's Cinemas!

By InCinemas  /  11 Nov 2014 (Tuesday)
Come this Wednesday, viewers in Singapore can now enjoy movies by Malaysia’s celebrated director Ahmad Idham on StarHub TV at the same time, on the same day as cinema audiences in Malaysia!

First movie to premiere on the new channel is comedy film, Misi Tawan Baby!

It is the first of its kind in Singapore—between StarHub and Ahmad Idham, which will see the director’s movies debut on StarHub’s On Demand Channel, Blockbuster Hangat (StarHub TV Channel 117) and StarHub TV Anywhere concurrently with their theatrical releases in Malaysia.

"The collaboration with StarHub is great, a platform where Singapore audiences can catch my movies on the same day it premieres in Malaysia's cinemas," said Ahmad Idham, the award-winning Malaysian director.

He added: "I have received comments from Singapore viewers that it was hard for them to catch my films in Singapore. Sometimes, they even have to wait for a release on Singapore's TV channels or on DVD. Now it’s worse because some resorted to illegal downloading of the films and this is not healthy for filmmakers and the movie industry!"

Misi Tawan Baby, Ahmad Idham’s first movie to premiere on Blockbuster Hangat is a romantic comedy with plenty of action. The movie delves into the camaraderie among mountain bikers, the unspoken ties that bind family members, the heartfelt emotions when characters are faced with conflicts or self-doubt, and explores the relationship between the male and female leads acted by popular Malaysian artistes Kamal Adli and Erin Malek. In addition to Kamal and Erin, the cast also includes Singaporean actor Fido Ahdross who is featured alongside veteran artistes like Cat Farish, Raja Ema and Zulin Aziz.

"Misi Tawan Baby is a very popcorn-like kind of movie. I want the audiences to feel relaxed while enjoying the laughter that the movie brings," said Idham, who is known for movies such as Hantu Bonceng and Adnan Sempit.

Lead actress Erin Malek plays a nurse in the movie, who tries to change Helmi (Kamal Adli) to be a better person. "As this movie is a comedy, filming days were full of joy and laughter. I really enjoyed spending time with the cast and director."

Malaysia's leading man, Kamal Adli, also shared his excitement on the collaboration, stating: "I hope the audience will support me and our movie Misi Tawan Baby. This is a gift to all my fans here in Singapore."

Apart from Misi Tawan Baby, StarHub viewers can also look forward to Ahmad Idham’s upcoming movie, Ophilia and Harmonika, which will premiere on Blockbuster Hangat in December and in 2015 respectively. A story on overcoming negative societal perceptions, Ophilia is funny and bittersweet at the same time, while in Harmonika, an author who does not believe in supernatural sees tragedies befall on his family.
