Exploring themes of dream and reality, the suspenseful tale stars popular Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu opposite charming Mainland singer/actress Yolanda Yuan Quan as two unrelated persons brought together by a dream.
[Synopsis] Young Chinese-American Max (Daniel Wu) has suffered from depression ever since the death of his mother, leading him to stay shut inside his New York residence all the time. One day, he dreams of himself being high-spirited and speaking fluent Mandarin. In the dream, he meets a Chinese girl named Ailing (Yolanda Yuan) in an anonymous city, where they witness the suicide of her boyfriend and later fall in love with each other. The dream makes the waking hours without Ailing almost unbearable, so Max sets off for Shanghai to find his dream lover, only to meet a girl who looks identical to Ailing but has the opposite personality. Michelle Yip also won The 29th Hong Kong Film Awards Best Supporting Actress.
[Synopsis] Brain (Louis Koo) is a special professional assassin who painstakingly designs perfect 'accidents' in which his targets are killed and seems like they die from misfortune. He bears enormous psychological stress everyday and worries about he may die in accident too, so he carries out each assassination with extreme caution. However, in a well-crafted 'accident', his mission fails due to an unexpected traffic accident and one of his teammate passes away. Is it a real accident? [Selling Points] 2009 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and among a host of films The Founding of a Republic is the undisputed centerpiece to commemorate the occasion. Produced under the state-run China Film Group and its director Han San-ping, the ambitious project is helmed by Fifth-Generation director Huang Jian-xin (Gimme Kudos) from a script by Wang Xing-dong (The One Man Olympics). Over a hundred big-name Chinese showbiz personalities get starring roles in the event film, including Vivian Wu, Aloys Chen, and Wang Xue-qi. In supporting parts there are Zhang Zi-yi, Vicki Zhao, Huang Xiao-ming, Ge You, Zhang Han-yu, Eva Huang, Chen Dao-ming, Jiang Wen, Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, Leon Lai, Donnie Yen…and the stargazing still doesn't end there - even A-list directors Chen Kaige and Feng Xiaogang are onboard taking rare turns in front of the camera!The film opened in Mainland on the October 1st National Day, the unstoppable box office has raked in over RMB300 million.
[Synopsis] In 1945 after the end of the Second Sino-Japanese War, Mao Zedong (Tang Guo-qiang), and members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) traveled to Chongqing for a meeting with Chiang Kai-shek (Zhang Guo-li) and the Kuomintang (KMT). With help from the China Democratic League, the Double Tenth Agreement was signed between the KMT and CCP, with both sides agreeing to stop the civil war and to establish a multi-party government in China. The following year, Chiang Kai-shek called for a National Assembly in Nanjing and was elected as President of the Republic of China (ROC). The peace negotiations failed and the civil war continued. In May 1948, the CCP declared the opening of a "War of Liberation" against Chiang's ROC government, with many other political parties responding to the call and taking the CCP's side. On 1 October 1949, Mao Ze-dong proclaimed the People's Republic of China with its capital at Beijing, marking the start of a new era for China.
