Shaw Theatres’ eighth cineplex at The Seletar Mall will open to public on 18 December 2014 with eight screens and the opening of the new digital boothless projection cinema is scheduled to coincide with the release of December blockbuster The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
Mr. Mark Shaw, Executive Vice President of Operations, said: “Shaw Theatres Seletar is the first in our concept of boutique neighborhood cinemas. The cineplex occupies a smaller footprint than conventional cinemas without compromising Shaw Theatre’s signature customer experience. Seletar’s halls feature the same wall-to- wall screens with Dolby 7.1 Digital Surround Sound, luxury Figueras seats and generous legroom as our larger venues. This is also our first boothless cineplex featuring top-in-class Christie Solaria One+ projectors, ACT Digital Cinema Control systems and RealD 3D systems, the most comfortable and brightest 3D experience.”
The new cineplex is the latest in a string of significant developments over the last few years for Shaw Theatres. The Iconic Shaw Theatres Lido reopened in May 2011 following a major overhaul and housed the first IMAX digital theatre in Singapore.
Notable events held at Lido this year alone include X-Men: Days of Future Past red carpet gala premiere (Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage and Fan Bingbing), Guardians of the Galaxy casts visit (Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana), 24th European Union Film Festival 2014 and the ongoing Singapore International Film Festival 2015 which hosted the red carpet gala premieres for Unlucky Plaza and The Crossing in one night.
Shaw Theatres nex, the company’s first new cineplex after more than a decade, opened in December 2010 with the introduction of premiere, a premium cinema- going experience in a suburban district. Shaw Theatres JCube with the second IMAX digital theatre in Singapore opened in April 2012 to serve the audience in the West.
Further developments are on the cards for Shaw Theatres. The company is currently working on its next cineplex at Waterway Point in Punggol, which is slated for completion in end 2015. There, Shaw Theatres will boast the third IMAX digital theatre in Singapore!

1,000 Free Movie Tickets – Shaw Theatres’ partners (The Seletar Mall and SAFRA) and shaw.sg will be giving out 1,000 (500 pairs of) free movie tickets daily for the recent titles like From Vegas to Macau, Fury, Minuscule: Valley Of The Lost Ants, Non-Stop, Pompeii, Step Up All In, The Lion Men and The Monkey King. There are a total 16 film titles to choose from. Limited to a pair of free tickets for one film per patron per day on a first-come-first-served basis.
