Which is More Interesting: Steamy Posts on #SG50ShadesOfGrey, or the Movie Itself?

There it is. It’s official. The BDSM book adaptation movie,
Fifty Shades of Grey
is Singapore’s highest grossing R21 film for its opening weekend.
Apart from our local take on the movie with quirky and humourous tweets on #SG50ShadesOfGrey, we ask 10 of our colleagues of varying ages on their views on the steamy movie trailer.
The chart-topping film not only topped our local cinemas, the film is estimated to have pulled $94.4 million in the US, contributing to the total $158 million in 58 countries over the opening weekend.
That’s a lot of people watching this erotic drama, and Singaporeans sure know how to have fun with the suggestive viral hashtag #SG50ShadesofGrey!
In tune with the overused SG50 slogan all over Singapore, Singaporeans came up with a brilliant new hashtag #SG50ShadesofGrey that touched on topics related to Singapore like the ERP, MRT and our even local delicacies!
(More funny tweets on #SG50ShadesOfGrey here!)
Is the film that terrible, despite the box office records it shattered worldwide? We asked around the InCinemas office, including our favourite office auntie on their reactions on the trailer below.
QF (23, Male)
:
(the only person in the office who watched the film)
“Hmmm… I found the story to be very slow, it lacked of the emotional psychology drama that was marketed, but the highlight of the movie is after all, the sex scenes and those scenes are goooood.”
JM (25, Female):
“It’s all about sex, sex and sex! Why would people pay to watch?! Just watch porn lah!”
Steven (26, M):
“I think it’s interesting to watch those scenes. It feels like there are a lot to be seen. I have not read the book, but the trailer does give a glimpse of that kind of fetish. It does makes me to want to explore more on their relationship.”
KL (30, M):
"I’m feeling so much for Anastasia! She said she can’t keep up with him right..? I’m interested to know what happens between them. I rather watch the movie than to read the book though. Okay lah… Quite hot.”
Eddy (34, M):
“Wah, on this movie? It feels like any other R21 show. I think I would rather watch Sex and Zen, because that movie packs more CG effects. I only liked the song. I can’t tell what’s the hype about it.”
Iris (39, F):
“I’ve watch this trailer! Don’t think I will watch it in cinemas. Not romantic at all.”
Jacky (43, M) :
“Why, okay ah… no, I don’t think it’s sexy. It looks quite boring because you will know how the story will end. There’s nothing much to expect from it.”
WR (43, F):
“The trailer looks so dark and gloomy.
(After explaining what the movie is about and how popular it is)
… You mean people like this kind of movie? So open ah!”
Mary (46, F):
“Aiyoh! It’s so slow and boring! The story doesn’t seem to attract me… not exciting at all.”
And… our favourite 65-year-old auntie said:
“Wah! Wah! Wah! Aunties like us don’t like to watch these kind of shows. We only like ‘Chilam’
(Julian Cheung, starring in Triumph In The Skies)
. But, there really are ladies who like these kind of sexual abuse… (BDSM). Tsk tsk”
Fifty Shades of Grey is now showing InCinemas!
