The 25th European Union Film Festival to Screen 29 Films this May!

The European Union Film Festival (EUFF), the oldest foreign film festival in Singapore, celebrates 25 years of passion for European cinema with 29 films from 29 European countries!

Festival Highlights:
  • The Connection (France) - M18 (Drug use and Violence)

Directed by Cédric Jimenez, the film tells a story about a young magistrate who's moved South from Metz with his wife and children, is appointed a judge of organised crime. He decides to attack The Connection, a gangster organisation that exports heroin throughout the world. Taking no heed of warnings, Judge Michel sets out alone against
Gaëtan Zampa, an emblematic figure of the crime world and a boss whose position and contacts make untouchable. But the judge rapidly comes to realize that, to get results, he must change his methods.

The Connection, stars Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin, was nominated for Best Production and Costume Design in the 2015 César Awards.


  • Ida (Poland) - NC16 (Brief Nudity)

Ida is a black-and-white Polish drama directed by Paweł Pawlikowski is a story set in post-World War Two, a tale of a young novitiate nun in in 1960s Poland who is on the verge of taking her vows when she discovers a dark family secret dating back to the years of the Nazi occupation. Now, before Ida takes her vows and disappears into monastic life for good, she must meet her only living relative – brusque and worldly aunt Wanda. How will discovering the past influence Ida’s future?

The film was awarded with the Best Foreign-language Film at the Oscars this year, receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences all around.


  • The Wonders (Italy / Switzerland) - PG13 (Some Coarse Language)

The Wonders won the Cannes Grand Prix, is a touching film about a family of bee-keepers who fight to preserve traditional agriculture. All around them the countryside is being ravished by pesticides, and rural life is falling apart. “Countryside Wonders”, a TV show competition, arrives from the city offering a cash prize and a luxury cruise for the Most Traditional Family. At the end of this extraordinary summer, nothing will be the same again, and the close bonds that hold the family together begin to break.

  • Mr Hublot (Luxembourg)

Mr Hublot lives in a world where characters made of mechanical parts, driving huge vehicles, rub shoulders with each other. A world where the giant scale of machines and the relentless use of salvaged materials reign supreme. A withdrawn, idiosyncratic character with OCD, Mr Hublot is scared of change and the outside world. His solution: he doesn't step foot outside his apartment! The arrival of the dog Robot Pet will turn his life upside down: he has to share his home with this very invasive companion.

Mr Hublot won the 2014 Academy Awards for the Best Animated Short Film category.

It will be the largest EUFF yet, with Latvia, Malta and Serbia participating for the first time. In addition, 29 short films by students from the Puttnam School of Film, LASALLE College of the Arts will be screened alongside each of the feature films.

Finally, as a nod to films from the Nordic countries, a special segment, Nordic Nights, spotlights four films from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, to be screened back-to-back during the festival.
