Finalists of Asia's Got Talent Blew Judges and Audience Away at Grand Finals Show.

By InCinemas  /  08 May 2015 (Friday)
It was the last time for the top nine grand finalists of Asia’s Got Talent to perform on the grand stage as a contestant of the inaugural talent show.

After months of hard work, Asia’s Got Talent will soon crown the very first winner with the coveted title, a prize money of US$100,000 and the opportunity to return and perform at Marina Bay Sands, where the semi-finals, Grand Final and Grand Final Results shows were held.

Having sat through three hours to watch the live recording of the grand finals, it’s safe to say that Asia truly got the talent, and what it takes to be the new superstar in-the-making.

From singers to dancers, shadow play acts and cultural performances, each finalist gave their all, showcasing the best of what was their most nerve-wracking 2-minutes of their life.

For judges David Foster, Melanie C., Anggun, and Van Ness Wu, their times as decision-makers are up as the final result is solely based on public’s voting through SMS, Facebook and the “Asia’s Got Talent” mobile app. The winner will be crowned in the concluding Grand Final Results episode premiering next Thursday (14 May) at 8.05pm on AXN.

“We all agree that we’ll be happy for any of the nine acts winning the top title,” said Foster at interview after the taping of the show.

“For me, the journey has been wonderful. I’m just very grateful for this opportunity and to be able to work with the other judges. It’s been a blessing,” said singer Van Ness Wu. “They are fun and I really can’t ask for anybody else to work with… Yeah! There’s so much pleasure working together it’s like we are a bunch friends hanging out - the more we hang out, the more we get to know each other.”

The night kicked off with Thailand’s hopes in the “polite rockers” ages 11-12, The Talento. The four-piece band brought the judges and live audience to their feet from the off with their powerful rendition of rock classic “The Final Countdown”.

Following that, Chinese couple Gao Lin and Liu Xin took to the stage in what Melanie C. – the judge who gave them her Golden Buzzer in the judges’ auditions – praised as their “best ever performance”.

Nothing prepared viewers for the romantic surprise and emotional drama when Gao got down on one knee right on the “Asia’s Got Talent” stage to propose to his partner and lover of seven years to which Liu said yes! Gao explained during the interview that he prepared the marriage proposal a week ago after the semi-finals to surprise his girlfriend.

Singapore’s hopes in “Asia’s Got Talent” followed as the 11-strong Dance Thrilogy took to stage in a Broadway-style tap dance performance, dancing to the track “We’re in the Money”, from musical 42nd Street. Van Ness Wu praised them for their discipline while David Foster credited the parents of girls who were “well brought up”.

Filipino ‘shadow play’ dance group El Gamma Penumbra – Anggun’s Golden Buzzer act from the judges’ auditions – amazed with their latest piece that conveyed the importance of conservation for Mother Nature. The need to protect our Earth could not be clearer through their stunning depiction and narration using only shadows. The touching performance moved Anggun to tears once again and she proclaimed it ‘wonderful’, while David Foster concurred, “Your message is so clear, so beautifully profound.”

The grand finals results show will air on May 14, 8.05pm at AXN (StarHub TV channel 511)!
