6 Highlights Not to Miss at the 'DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition'!

The much-anticipated museum exhibition - 'DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition’ finally opens its doors in Singapore, showcasing over 400 displays from 31 films over the past 20 years.

Fans of animation films like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon and Madagascar can now discover the magic that goes into creating these films. Through  interactive and insightful stations, the exhibition reveals the creative processes and technical ingenuity that go into making the stunning storyworlds at the heart of the films.

Here are 6 highlights of the exhibition you should be looking out for!


        1. Dragon Flight: A Dragon’s-Eye View of Berk

One of the main highlights of the exhibition is the ‘Dragon Flight: A Dragon’s- Eye View of Berk'!

Hop on for a breathtaking ride on the back of Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon as he takes you around the Isle of Berk, home to the many vikings and dragons! With a wide curved frame - the 40-foot and 180-degree projection, it promises to take visitors on a panoramic ride of a lifetime.



         2. Models/ Displays

Be it character models, various sketches of scenes from your favourite animation film or paper-cut designs of the fairytale wonderland in Shrek, be mesmerised by the comprehensive discovery of DreamWorks Animation’s works over the past 20 years.



         3. Drawing Room

The ‘Drawing Room’ is the perfect place for aspiring animators to showcase their talent. Visitors can try their hands at creating a short animation sequence themselves, using the same software that DreamWorks’ animators use. Try a stickman figure or a ball for a start!



         4. Storyboarding

In the ‘Story’ gallery, be drawn in as filmmaker Conrad Vernon shows us an upbeat, step-by-step pitch for the infamous ‘Interrogating Gingy’ scene in Shrek. Then, see how stacks of sketches string together to form the backbone of a film in an immersive animated installation.



          5. Film Screenings

Enhance the exhibition experience by catching these films by DreamWorks Animation! From Oscar-nominated films like ‘Shrek’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda’ to kids favourites such as ‘Chicken Run’ and ‘Madagascar’, see how these films were carefully edited and put together! Film screenings are complimentary to ticket-holders of DreamWorks Animation Exhibition.

It doesn’t matter if you’re four, turning four or 44, these workshops are bound to unleash the crafty side in you as you try your hands at simple animation creations! Learn about the beginnings of animation through demonstrations and create your very own thaumathrope or flip-book! For the more adventurous ones, create a short film by moulding your own clay character at the ‘Claymation’ workshop for a small fee of $5/person.
