All tickets for film will not be priced as each ticketholder is encouraged to make a donation of their own accord instead. All proceeds from the three-day screening will go to 7 different beneficiaries.

Ticketing will begin 1 July 2015 at the official website, on a first come first serve basis. Each person is limited to up to 4 tickets. "No amount is too small if it is from the heart," said filmmaker Royston Tan at the media conference on 16 June.

The chosen charities include:
  • Alzheimer’s Disease Association
  • Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association
  • Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore
  • PERTAPIS Senior Citizens Fellowship Home
  • Singapore Buddhist Lodge Welfare Foundation
  • Student Care Service
  • Transient Workers Count Too
The renowned director also took the chance to update the media on the status of the film. “All directors have finished their individual segment, and now we're into the final post-production stage. My producer and I will be flying to Hong Kong tomorrow for the final DCP (Digital Cinema Package) transfer.”

Tan, who is also the project’s lead filmmaker revealed that none of the other six filmmakers have seen the completed film, but said all seven films are very different and diverse, where some ‘even crossed their usual style of filmmaking to tell stories’.

“What made the impossible possible is when all the filmmakers dropped their projects and took time off to stand by their promise to do this film… all films are very personal and close to the heart.”

To allow for more people to experience this cinematic initiative, three additional matinee screenings of the film have been added for specially selected groups and communities – the pioneer generation and senior citizens; the underprivileged; and budding student filmmakers.

He added, “As we celebrate a milestone in Singapore’s nationhood journey, we want to bring the celebrations to these individuals that need us to stand alongside them. We are grateful for those who have come forward to stand with us in this effort and hopefully, this film will help rally even more people to experience this project and make a positive difference for our home in Singapore.”

The Search for a Local Pianist

The organisers of the movie project also announced yesterday that they are searching for a local pianist to perform at the opening night screening of 7 Letters at the newly refurbished Capitol Theatre. The selected winner will be taking the stage to perform a five-minute opening prelude piece written by Golden Horse-winning composer Ricky Ho. The medley strings together music from the seven short films and includes local tunes, such as Bunga Sayang (Love Flower) and Dayung Sampan (Row the Boat), as well as original soundtracks.

Interested applicants can download the digital copy of the score at the official website and submit a video recording of themselves playing to contact@7letters.sg but 12 July 2015. A second and final round of auditions will take place in mid-July for shortlisted applicants.
