Singapore’s ‘Lobang Kings’ Gather Together for a New Film, ‘Lucky Boy’!

With a moniker of ‘Lobang King’, there are only two people that come to mind: Veteran actor Chew Chor Meng and ‘Ah Boy’ Wang Wei Liang. The two ‘kings’ will be starring as father and son in a new local film ‘Lucky Boy’, directed by Boris Boo.

Budgeted S$2.5 million, the movie tells a story about Lin Yu (Wang Wei Liang), his family, friends and lover Qing Qing, and how their relationship spread over the decades from the 1970s to the present day, with Singapore's transformation into a bustling city-state the backdrop.

Managing director of Clover Films, Mr Lim Teck shared at the press conference yesterday that Chew and Wang were his ideal casts for the movie. “I’m very glad that we managed to get our two actors on board this project. They were our first choices when we had the characters set out for this movie. We aim to make this movie one that all Singaporeans can resonate to.”

“Lucky Boy” will be Wang’s first feature film after his ‘Ah Boys To Men’ success. Although he may not have his ‘brothers’ fighting alongside with him, Wang is determined to work harder. “I will put in my 120 percent effort,” he quipped. “This will be something new for me as well, but there is always a first time.”

“The concern I’m having right now which will also be my biggest challenge is to portray a 40-year-old man. Lin grows from a 16-year-old boy to a 40-year-old man, and I have not experienced what is it like to be in my 30s or 40s… but I’m confident in working those out with Boris and the rest.”

In Search for a Female Lead

The producers are looking for a young lady to play the female lead in ‘Lucky Boy’, the love interest of Wang’s character. Female talents based in Singapore between the ages of 18 to 25 years old can send in their photographs and details to luckyboyauditions@gmail.com from now till 25th July 2015.

“I’m looking for one that has the ‘X-factor’. It’s pretty hard to describe what it is, but she has to be someone who has a character,” said director Boo.

“Lucky Boy” will commence filming this September and is slated to release in the second quarter of 2016.
