Wang Weiliang’s ‘Luckiest’ Moment in ‘Lucky Boy’.

Singapore’s favourite new generation ‘Lobang King’ feels lucky to be a part of upcoming local film ‘Lucky Boy’. Not only because he gets to collaborate with veterans like Chew Chor Meng and Chen Xiuhuan, he feels it is a ‘new chapter’ in his acting career.

“The luckiest thing that happened to me is accepting this film because it feels like a fresh start for me. I am now working with a new director, and I’m lucky to be able to learn much more through an entire new film… But my luckiest moment is to have such a beautiful lead actress paired up with me,” said Wang during an interview at the lensing ceremony yesterday.

The Ah Boys To Men star embarks on a new film since his army-related movie series with director Jack Neo. In ‘Lucky Boy’, he plays the lead character who is always one step behind others and surrounded by misfortunes. His pins for the love and attention of his schoolmate, Qing Qing - played by Hong Kong actress Venus Wong.

The 23-year-old actress-model also shared her excitement to be in the project. “I feel that I am lucky to be a part of this project because it really feels like everyone in this production team is putting their best effort to making it possible.”

This is not her first time participating in a local production. She previously starred in ‘King of Mahjong’, alongside comedy kings Chapman To and Mark Lee.

As to whether there will be intimate scenes in the movie, Wang jokes that he hopes the director ‘will arrange something’ into it.

Boo, whose previous film credits include ‘Everybody’s Business’ and ‘Taxi! Taxi!’ joked: “ If I were to arrange for one, I don’t think he (Weiliang) will do a good job, and so I will demonstrate for him!”

This film also brings back Singapore’s popular on-screen couple in the 1990s - Chew Chor Meng and Chen Xiuhuan who both collaborated on local television drama series such as Witty Advisor and Heavenly Beings.

Chen said: “When Boris and Lim Teck approached me to be a part of ‘Lucky Boy’, I felt like the character is a reflection of myself in real life! We have a lot of things in common. I thought it’ll be fun to play this character and agreed.”

She added: “When I heard that I’ll be acting with Chor Meng, I was really looking forward to working with this old pal. I had no idea that it had been 20 years since we last collaborated until he mentioned about it! He is one of the reasons why I accepted this project too.”

“I am looking forward to the chemistry we once had together, and I believe we are able to achieve it because for the past few days that we worked together, there wasn’t much changes from the past. It feels great to have her back,” said Chew.

Lucky Boy is slated to open InCinemas 2nd quarter of 2016.
