The National Youth Film Awards 2016 Calls for Submissions!

By Flora  /  27 Jan 2016 (Wednesday)

The National Youth Film Awards (NYFA) is back for its sophomore edition, with six additional award categories, focusing on the technical field.

The National Youth Film Awards (NYFA) 2016 is now calling for submissions from all media-related full-time students who are under the age of 35 (before 31 December 2016) and are currently enrolled in a media-related course or module at any Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) in Singapore.

The NYFA was inaugurated in April 2015 and attracted 238 submissions across 13 IHLs in its debut season. Past winners have since gone on to achieve greater heights, from garnering awards at other competitions and festivals like the Singapore Heritage Short Film Competition 2015 and The Crowbar Awards 2015, to being commissioned to shoot a music video for local band The Sam Willows.

A total of 20 awards will up for grabs this year, up from 14 categories in 2015. New award categories include Best Character Design in Animated Film; Best Writing in Animated Film; Best Camera Work in Documentary Film; Best Editing in Documentary Film; Best Camera Work; Best Lighting Award; and Best Colour Grading.

(Head over to the official website to find up more about the competition!)

The competition will be assessed by a Jury made up of 15 well-known names in the media industry including filmmakers Jack Neo, Freddie Yeo, Lee Thean-jeen; film industry practitioners such as Joachim Ng (Media Development Authority of Singapore), Vikram Channa (Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific) and Ng Say Yong (mm2 Entertainment).

In addition, aspiring youth filmmakers will be able attend workshops and screenings, which will be opened to public.

The competition is open for submission from now until 2359hrs (GMT +8) on Saturday, 30 April 2016. Shortlisted Nominees will be announced on Tuesday, 28 June 2016. The Award Ceremony will be held on Saturday, 23 July 2016, with Ms Grace Fu, Minister of Culture, Community and Youth, attending as Guest-of-Honour.
