The 2016 Singapore Chinese Film Festival (SCFF) Returns with 62 Film Titles!

By Flora  /  15 Apr 2016 (Friday)

Running from 29th April till 8th May 2016, the annual Singapore Chinese Film Festival (SCFF) returns for the fourth season with expanded number of film titles - from award-winning selections to Chinese film classics, expect to be immersed with a plethora of films during this 10-day festival!

Jointly organised by the Singapore Film Society (SFS) and SIM University’s UniSIM Centre for Chinese Studies, SCFF consists of 16 narrative feature films, 10 documentaries and 36 short films, including two Singaporean films.

Singapore Chinese Film Festival 2016 (SCFF)
Date: 29 Apr - 8 May 2016
Venues: National Museum Singapore/Golden Village/ The Arts House
Ticket Pricing:

(Head to the official website for more updates!)

Unlike past years, the opening film will not be a full-length feature film, but a screening of a selection of award-winning shorts from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. Gladys Ng’s ‘My Father After Dinner’ which won the Best Singapore Short Award at the 26th Singapore International Film Festival, and Ang Qing Sheng’s ‘Lak Bo Ki’ are the two Singapore shorts featured.

Another highlight of the festival is the screening of the rather controversial ‘Ten Years’, a Hong Kong film anthology of five short stories which is set in the year 2025. The film won the Best Film at the 35th Hong Kong Film Awards, but due to its sensitive political themes , mainland Chinese authorities censored reports mentioning the film, and had state television channels and major internet sites prohibited from broadcasting the Hong Kong Film Awards live.

Other notable films are Lou Ye’s ‘Blind Massage’, which was awarded the Best Picture at the 51st Golden Horse Awards; ‘The Chinese Mayor’ which won the Best Documentary at the recent Golden Horse Awards, director’s Zhou Hao’s second clinch at the prestigious awards show.

In addition to film screenings, there will be panel discussions for festival-goers, and post-screening Q&A sessions with filmmakers at selected screenings.
