'Wicked' Movie Gets December 2019 Release!

By Flora  /  17 Jun 2016 (Friday)

The hugely popular Broadway musical that got everyone singing ‘Defying Gravity’ is finally getting a release date for its movie adaptation!

The Wicked movie is slated for a December 20, 2019 release, and will offer a feature film adaptation of the musical phenomenon seen by more than 50 million fans around the world.

Universal Pictures announced that Stephen Daldry will direct the film, while Marc Platt will be involved as the producer, who is also the producer of the long-running stage show. Writer Winnie Holzman and composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz, collaborators on the Broadway show, are reuniting for the film adaptation.

The Broadway show was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won three, propelling the careers of Idina Menzel (who played Elphaba) and Kristin Chenoweth (who played Glinda), among others. There are no news as to who will be playing the two lead roles, but rumour has it that both Menzel and Chenoweth will not be reprising their roles in the movie.

Who will you like to see play Elphaba and Glinda in the movie? Tell us in the comments below!
