Fancy a horror movie this coming July? Mark your calendar! Twisted is coming in theatres this 28 July 2011. It is a horror action comedy which consists of 3 different short stories strung together by a drug dealer character played by Mark Lee.

The movie stars an ensemble cast from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, which includes Mark Lee 李国煌 (Singapore), Zhu Mi Mi 朱咪咪(Hong Kong), Calvin Soh 苏智诚(Singapore), Randall Tan (Singapore), Linda Liao 廖佩伶(Taiwan), Candy Lim 林冰冰(Malaysia), and Joey Leong  梁祖仪 (Malaysia).

We highly recommend you to watch its movie trailer to get an interesting insight into the upcoming movie. Twisted opens InCinemas 28 July 2011. Join Twisted Facebook Page for more of its updates!

[Twisted Movie Trailer]

[Synopsis] The story revolves around a drug dealer (Mark Lee) who banged up a young girl, a pair of con men who wants to turn over a new leaf, and 4 cabin crews whose lives were turned upside down over a fateful night of drugs and booze. This is a story of individuals with fates intertwined and how their paths clash. A series of twisted events that is both a study on cause and effect, and how our actions affect the people around us.
--

What do you think of the trailer? It's rather creepy isn't it? The director of the movie is Chai Yee Wei and here at InCinemas, we actually had the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his second featured film, Twisted!

Q: Previously you've directed the horror movie Blood ties. Can you share with us how much different is it this time in Twisted?
Yee Wei: When it comes to overall experience, I have learn a lot technically and how to get better performance from the actors. Previously, I was able to work with a lot of international actors and this time, when I get the chance to work with the cast from Taiwan, Singapore, Malayisa  and Hong Kong, it gives me a lot more confidence.
Defintely after doing some more films, you will also have confidence in directing the rest of the areas as well. I foresee it will always be a on-going learning process [for me].

Q: Twisted is branded as a horror action comedy. I've seen the official trailer and thought it's rather scary. The funny part is probably the last where Mark Lee shouts, "Grab my tits". What level of humour can the audience expect? Is it something like The Ghost Is Crazy?
Yee Wei: The style of humour is very different in the sense that Twisted has a lot more Dark humour. We're trying to play with the humour, which can hopefully reach the young people as well. We're trying to do a comedy that can resonate well with the young and the old.
It's done in a way where there will be a lot of scares but at the same time it's fun scares. The audience can expect a lot of fun elements from this movie.

Q: Any difficulties in getting Mark Lee to work on that (Grab Tits) scene?
Yee Wei: He [Mark Lee] was actually very cooperative. I discussed with him the character and he thought I was a very cruel director (laughs). Most of the film he will be half naked running around. I told him I was trying to make him to be like a 'Singaporean Super Hero'.
I would say the story was tailored with him in mind because when you write a story, you tag yourself certain imagination of who might possibly act in it. In a way, it's a dream come true that I have him to play the character.

Q: What is your experience like directing the actors like Mark Lee and Zhu Mi Mi?
Yee Wei: They are probably the most experienced actors  on set among the rest of the actors. They're a joy to work with. They love to contribute to make the characters their own which is a great thing. They put in their own sense of sensibility and experience into each of the characters to to make it special.
It's always good for me when the actors evaluate the context because film making is a collaborative effect. It's always good when you and the crews can explore freely into the places where you dont expect. It always make the film a better film.

Q: What are the challenges you've faced when filming Twisted?
Yee Wei: I would say the fact that the story may seem like 3 segments but they are not. They are somewhat intertwined. The end result is you have to play with three different sets of main cast. This is a film with a lot of main cast and how do I make sure that everyone has a chance to shine.
In the way I want all the actors to contribute and not having the feeling of being an extra. If you ask me who are the main actors, I would say all of them as they are crucial in the development of the story.

Q: Any ghostly encounters experienced by yourself or the rest of the cast while filming the movie?
Yee Wei: I would say during the location we had at a deserted road that leads to the mountain. It's a very long stretch of road, about 4 or 5 km and you can see neither end. There are no street lamps and we actually have to use our own. During one of the night if I'm not wrong, one of the crew actually saw an apparition at the location where we are shooting the car crash.
Subsequently, every night they were making a lot of offerings and hopefully things will go smooth as afterall we're filming a car crash. We were hoping that everyone will come out safe and in the end we are glad it was okay.

Q: What about memorable or funny moments in the making of the film?
Yee Wei: There was this moment it was very surreal at the street I told you.  It was ocassionally raining all the time. There was one night the rain just stop abruptly and the weather was still warm. The mist started to appear and the place looked very misty and ghostly. It was something we didn't plan and it was very beautiful. Suddenly we just grab Mark Lee and cameramen and make full use of the environment. It's like a gift from God and we're very lucky to have captured the beautiful scene.

Q: What is your expectations on the box office?
Yee Wei: My expectation was not the box office. I hope people will enjoy it and have a lot of fun watching it because we have a lot of fun making it as well. Eventually if the audience like it, I believe it will translate into a favourable box office.

At one point during the conversation, we asked Yee Wei how he would rate himself as a director and he replied thoughtfully, "I can say I've done the best I could within my limits. There's always room for improvement. I would say I'm satisfied with what I done and I hope the audience will agree."

It was enjoyable speaking to the friendly director. Towards the end of our conversation, Yee Wei shares with us that he hopes people will have fun watching the movie Twisted. And if you haven't seen the director before, below is a picture we have found! Well, look out for his movie 'Twisted' on 28 July!
