The Girl on the MRT

By Freddy  /  11 Oct 2016 (Tuesday)

In The Girl on the Train, Rachel (Emily Blunt), who is devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day, until one morning she sees something shocking happens there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds.

The setting of the thriller was in New York, despite the original novel it was adapted from setting the story in London. What if the story was set in Singapore?

1. Nothing to see

No perfect couple on the balcony for Rachel to fantasize about. Singapore couples do not simply go hanky-panky at their HDB balcony without being stomped.

2. The train moves too fast to see anything.

Did you know that our MRT trains reach up to 80km/h? Rachel would not have been able to see anything outside.

3. She will be blocked by other commuters.

Our MRT seats face inside the carriage. She would have to look at the window opposite her, which will be blocked by standing commuters.

4. No seats

In fact, Rachel might not even be able to sit down let alone run around. Her daily commute is during working hours. Rachel would have been lucky to have a spot to stand in the sardine can.

5. MRT breakdown

She actually might not even be in the train at all. Due to MRT breakdown, she would be on a shuttle bus to the next station.

Perhaps Rachel would be better off stalking happy couples on Instagram or Facebook. Their month-versary posts and #neverending #love #hashtags should be good enough for her.

The Girl on the Train is in the theatres. Check the showtimes here!
