8 Awesome Movies to Watch in February!

By Flora  /  02 Feb 2017 (Thursday)
This month, we have a comparable slate of movies for moviegoers, especially those who are attuned to the current Oscar buzz. Four highly-acclaimed movies (with multiple nominations) screens this February, together with more local films and the seductive Fifty Shades returns for the Valentine lovers.

Here are 8 movies to watch this February!

After six movies, Milla Jovovich is bidding goodbye to her kick-ass character Alice in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. In the concluding film, Alice returns to Raccoon City with her old friends to save humanity against the undead hordes and new mutants.

Martin Scorsese’s 26 year-long passion project 'Silence' finally hits Singapore theatres. While box office numbers in the U.S. fared badly, fans of the auteur wouldn’t want to miss the historical drama starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson and Tadanobu Asano.

The plot follows two 17th-century Jesuit priests who travel from Portugal to Japan to locate their missing mentor and spread Catholicism.

Of course, the highly-talked about the R-21 sequel, Fifty Shades Darker sees the return of the two hot stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in a sexier follow-up to their S&M relationship, based on the best-selling book by E.L. James.

Everything was pretty much awesome in 2014 'The LEGO movie', so good and so awesome that Will Arnett’s version of Batman has its own spinoff movie, complete with Batgirl, Robin, and the Joker. It’s going to be an adventure in LEGO’s Gotham City.

Another Oscar Best Picture contender, Hidden Figures, starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer (nominated for Best Supporting Actress) and Janelle Monáe, based on the real-life stories of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson respectively. The three brilliant employees of NASA that fought through sexism and racism to inspire generations to dream big.

The second film in Sam Loh’s femme fatale trilogy, Siew Lup debuted at the Singapore International Film Festival 2016 to sold-out screenings. Inspired by classic Hong Kong category-3 thrillers, the R-rated erotic thriller is said to be bolder, bloodier and a lot sexier.

For the horror buffs, Rings looks like a great option for a scare night-out! The supernatural psychological horror is the third feature-length film in the American franchise, following The Ring and The Ring Two. Watching a movie about a ‘movie within the movie’ that kills the watcher? We’re out.

  • The Return - 23 Feb

Another Singaporean movie making its theatrical run this month is ‘The Return’, directed by Green Zheng. Similar to Siew Lup, The Return screened at the 2015 Singapore International Film Festival, after making its rounds around the world, including Venice, Rome, Hanoi and Luang Prabang.

(InCinemas speak to director Zhang about his journey making the movie!)
