4 Cannes Film Festival-Winning Films to Screen at Voilah! French Festival Singapore in May!

By Flora  /  21 Mar 2017 (Tuesday)

As part of the annual Voilah! French Festival Singapore, 4 award-winning French films will be screened at The Projector from 12-21 May.

Recipients of the Palme d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival, the films include: Blue is the Warmest Color (2013), The Class (2008), Love (Amour) (2012), and Dheepan (2015). Read the synopses below!

(Read our 2015 InC-terview with 'Dheepan' lead actress Kalieaswari Srinivasan!)

In addition to these four screenings, French comedy-drama ‘Ouvert La Nuit', otherwise known as Open at Night, will be screened as part of the European Union Film Festival, a partner programme of Voilah! 2017.

The movie follows the main character Luigi, also played by Baer, who attempts to save his theatre from ruin within 24 hours. Starring with him are famous French actresses Audrey Tautou (previously starred in movies such as The Da Vinci Code and Amelie ) and Sabrina Ouazani (previously starred in Games of Love and Chance), who play an ex-girlfriend and an intern respectively.
Organised by the Embassy of France and Institut Français Singapour in collaboration with French and Singaporean partners, Voilah! 2017 focuses on the theme of Imagination and Innovation, with a spotlight on the Île-de-France region. From delectable French cuisine and enthralling art performances to thought-provoking exhibitions and film screenings, the festival provides an immersive and accessible festival experience with something for everyone.

[Blue Is The Warmest Color]
Adèle's (Adele Exarchopoulos) life is changed when she meets Emma (Lea Seydoux), a young woman with blue hair, who will allow her to discover desire and to assert herself as a woman and as an adult. In front of others, Adèle grows, seeks herself, loses herself, and ultimately finds herself through love and loss.

[The Class]
Teacher and novelist François Bégaudeau plays a version of himself as he negotiates a year with his racially mixed students from a tough Parisian neighborhood.

[Love]
Georges and Anne are an octogenarian couple. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, also a musician, lives in Britain with her family. One day, Anne has a stroke, and the couple's bond of love is severely tested.

[Dheepan]
Dheepan is a Sri Lankan Tamil warrior who flees to France and ends up working as a caretaker outside Paris.

The Voilah! 2017 runs from 8 April – 21 May 2017!
