The Singapore film ‘1965’ was released alongside the celebration of SG50 in 2015 where audiences are transported back to the tumultuous 60s. 1965 is a movie based on historical events that happened in Singapore but mainly touches on racial harmony and the fragility of it.
(8 things you probably didn't know about '1965'!)
[About the Film]
It is the first film that portrayed the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew on the big screen. Lim Kay Tong plays Lee Kuan Yew, and with Qi Yuwu, Deanna Yusoff, Joanne Peh, James Seah, Sezairi Sezali and Mike Kasem. In the months leading up to the independence of Singapore, a group of people, divided by race, language and religion, saw their lives profoundly transformed by one single defining moment in history. ‘1965’ shows how some pioneers faced up to the war against racism. And how some immigrants suddenly realised they were not going back to the countries they came from, that this small island was going to be their home.
