Get a taste of Finland at The Projector this coming October!

By Say Peng  /  21 Sep 2017 (Thursday)
The Embassy of Finland, in collaboration with indie cinema The Projector, is organising the Finnish Film Festival Singapore 2017. It's the first Finnish Film Festival to be held in Singapore.

Here are some films we recommend you check out:

1. The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki

The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki (2016) is a black and white drama film directed by Juho Kuosmanen. Based on a true story, the film tells the story of Olli Maki, an amateur-turned-professional boxer who stood a chance to win the 1962 World Boxing Association featherweight title, one of the biggest events in Finnish sporting history. The film is Kuosmanen's debut feature film. It had its world premiere at the prestigious Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, where it competed with other films, including Boo Junfeng's Apprentice (2016), to win the top prize, the Un Certain Regard Prize. The film was also Finland's entry for the Oscars Best Foreign Language Film, but unfortunately, it was not nominated. Do not miss out the chance to watch one of Finland's greatest films.

2. Diving Into The Unknown

Diving Into The Unknown (2016) is documentary directed by Juan Reina. The film tells the story of how a group of Finnish cave divers risk their lives to retrieve the bodies of their friends who died when their gear got snared on rock formations. The film made its international premiere in Switzerland at a famous documentary film festival, the Visions du Reel film festival. It's a harrowing film not to be missed.

3. Tale of a Lake

Tale of a Lake (2016) is a poetic nature documentary co-directed by Marko Rohr and Kim Saarniluoto. Told through mythology, legends and old stories, the film takes viewers on a journey through the beautiful landscapes of Finland where we see stunning images of crystal clear springs, basins, lakes and all variety of animals in the different seasons. It's a feast for both the eyes and ears. The film, which boasts a rich music soundtrack, won the Jussi Award for Best Music (the Jussi Award is Finland's Oscars). What's more, one of the film's directors, Marko Rohr, will be present for Q&A. Don't miss this opportunnity to meet a veteran documentary filmmaker!
