How You Can Still See Your Favourite Movie Stars Now That The Cinemas Are Closed
By
Rachelle
/
19 Apr 2020 (Sunday)
Missing your favourite movie stars on the big screen? Us too, but worry not! We’ve listed down some of the ways you can still catch your favourite stars in action:
Chris Hemsworth
It’s been almost a year since we saw the God of Thunder on the big screen (can you believe it’s been that long since the release of
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame
?) and with the virus halting all filming and production, we can only wait so patiently for his return in
Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder
slated for release Feb 22, 2022.
Thankfully, Hemsworth has an upcoming film project that will premiere on Netflix soon!
The action thriller film,
Extraction
, follows Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a fearless black-market mercenary with nothing left to lose when his skills are solicited to rescue Ovi (Rudraksh Jaiswal), the son of an imprisoned international crime lord who is kidnapped. But in the murky underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers, an already deadly mission approaches the impossible, forever altering the lives of Rake and the boy.
Extraction
is directed by Sam Hargrave with screenplay by Joe Russo, based on the comic Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando Leon Gonzalez, and Eric Skillman.
Catch
Extraction
on Netflix, Apr 24.
Hugh Jackman
Perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise that it was HBO who picked up Jackman’s film,
Bad Education
that premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, denying the film a traditional cinematic release.
The film, directed by
Thoroughbred
’s Corey Finley, is a fact-based affair. Jackman stars as Frank Tassone, a school superintendent who, upon discovery of his malfeasance in 2002, plunged his Long Island district in a notorious embezzlement scandal. Allison Janney, Ray Romano, Alex Wolff, Rafael Casal, and Annaleigh Ashford also star.
Watch
Bad Education
on HBO GO or HBO, Apr 26.
Chris Evans
Bet you didn’t think you’d be able to catch this movie star in a television miniseries. Well, think again.
Chris Evans, in a move to branch out from only starring in action blockbusters after ending his stint as Captain America, signed on to star and executive produce an Apple TV original series called
Defending Jacob
.
The miniseries based on the novel of the same name by William Landay, follows the story of a father whose teenage son is accused of murder. Evans plays the father, alongside his
Knives Out
co-star Jaeden Martell in the role of his teenaged son and Michelle Dockery as the wife and mother.
Defending Jacob
will premiere on Apple TV, Apr 24.
Kristen Bell
Like Chris Evans, Kirsten Bell also has an upcoming Apple TV series.
Central Park
, is an animated musical sitcom created by
Bob’s Burgers
’ creator Loren Bouchard, Nora Smith, and Bell’s
Frozen
co-star Josh Gad.
Central Park
features Owen Tillerman and his family who live an unconventional life in New York’s bustling Central Park, which Owen manages. Now, they’ll have to fend off a wealthy hotel heiress who wants to turn the park into condos. The voice cast not only reunites Bell and Gad but also boasts talents like Tituss Burgess, Daveed Diggs, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., and Stanley Tucci.
Bell last lent her voice to
Disney’s Frozen II
when she reprised her role as Anna in the highly anticipated sequel. If for some wild reason you’ve yet to see it,
Frozen II
is currently available on demand on Apple TV and Singtel VOD.
Central Park
will make its debut on Apple TV, May 29.
Domnhall Gleeson
We were looking forward to seeing Domnhall Gleeson reprise his role in
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway
but unfortunately its release date was postponed to Jan 14, 2021 as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Turns out we don’t have to wait very long to watch him in a new release as he has a television series that recently premiered on HBO!
Run
is a black comedy thriller series created by Vicky Jones and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge of
Fleabag
fame. The series follows the story of Ruby Richardson, who walks away from her ordinary life in the suburbs to revisit her past with her college boyfriend, Billy Johnson. The two made a pact 17 years earlier: If either one of them texted the word "RUN" and the other replied with the same, they would drop everything and meet in Grand Central Station and travel across America together. The series also stars Merritt Wever.
Run
premiered on HBO, Apr 12. Watch it on HBO GO now.
John Krasinski
It’s unfortunate that Krasinski had to see his much anticipated sequel film’s release delayed due to the sudden virus outbreak but he’s staying positive by hosting a YouTube show called
Some Good News
.
Some Good News
is dedicated to heartwarming, inspiring, and uplifting stories from around the world and started its first episode with an
Office
reunion with Steve Carrell joining Krasinski on his homemade talkshow. The following episode saw the return of
Hamilton
’s original Broadway company for a performance of Alexander Hamilton.
A Quiet Place II
is now rescheduled to release on Sep 3 so while we wait, why not follow Krasinski’s YouTube channel
here
and catch up on some good news?
Florence Pugh
The up and coming movie star has a supporting role in this year’s
Marvel Studios’ Black Widow
but we’ll have to wait a little longer for her superhero debut as the film’s release date has been pushed back to Oct 29.
In the meantime, if you’re taken with Pugh’s bubbly and down to earth personality then you’ll love to know that the actress regularly showcases her cooking skills on her Instagram stories. Check them out
here
and perhaps try your hand at some of her shared recipes!
Zach Braff
Much like his girlfriend Pugh, Braff himself has been keeping busy in this time of quarantine. The former
Garden State
and
Scrubs
star reunited with his
Scrubs
co-star/real-life best friend Donald Faison for a new podcast called
Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach + Donald
.
The podcast will find Braff and Faison revisiting one episode of
Scrubs
a week, with new episodes dropping every Tuesday. As they explore the halls of Sacred Heart Hospital once more, they’ll also dig into their very real friendship.
You can listen to
Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach + Donald
here
.
Kate Hudson
It has been awhile since we last saw Hollywood’s golden girl in a starring role. Her last movie was 2017’s
Marshall
that starred Chadwick Boseman in the titular role. Now Hudson currently has a film in the works,
Music
, written and directed by Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Sia, that is due for release sometime later in 2020.
While we wait for a release date to be announced, why not catch up with her in a different way?
Like some of her fellow actors, Hudson has teamed up with her brother Oliver Hudson on a podcast called
Sibling Revelry
. The podcast explores the sibling bond, family dynamics and human, mind, body and so much more. The siblings dive deep into the things that interest them and talk to other siblings in a free-formed, wide open, relaxed conversation to not only have some laughs, but to maybe inspire some people along the way with universal tales of what it’s like to grow up with brothers and sisters.
To catch up with Hudson, follow her podcast
here
.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Gordon-Levitt is starring in an upcoming American crime drama film called
The Trial of the Chicago 7
, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin.
The film is based on the story of the Chicago Seven, a group of seven defendants charged by the federal government with conspiracy, inciting to riot, and other charges related to anti-Vietnam War and countercultural protests that took place in Chicago, Illinois, on the occasion of the 1968 Democratic National Convention. An ensemble cast including Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jeremy Strong, Alex Sharp, Thomas Middleditch, Frank Langella, William Hurt, Michael Keaton, and Mark Rylance will star alongside Gordon-Levitt.
Before the film is released in cinemas on Oct 8, we can catch up on how Gordon-Levitt has been dealing with quarantine life through his media platform
HitRecord
.
