10 Popular Classic Films to Revisit Using Netflix

The rise to prominence of movies can be dated back to the late 1890s, but when did it start becoming popular? Some say it was during the late '50s while others say its the 80's. To me, the entire 20th century was a prime that can never be denied. Some honourable mentions are the start of coloured films in the 1940s to the emergence of sci-fi movies in the '50s. Every step of the way was what built Walt Disney Studio, Warner Bros., Sony and many more to what they are in the present days. Let us take a look at some of the best classics!
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
Genre:
Comedy
Best friends Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne stumble across a suitcase full of money left behind in Harry's car by Mary Swanso, who was on her way to the airport. The pair decide to go to Aspen, Colo., to return the money, unaware that it is connected to a kidnapping. As Harry and Lloyd -- who has fallen in love with Mary -- are pursued across the country by hired killers and police, they find both their friendship and their brains tested.
Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Genre:
Romance, Drama, Fantasy
Edward is a young man, created by a scientist, with a freakish appearance accentuated by the scissor blades he has instead of hands. Loving suburban saleswoman Peg discovers Edward and takes him home, where he falls for Peg's teen daughter. However, despite his kindness and artistic talent, Edward's hands make him an outcast.
Aliens (1986)
Genre:
Sci-Fi, Adventure
After floating in space for 57 years, Lt. Ripley's shuttle is found by a deep space salvage team. Upon arriving at LV-426, the marines find only one survivor, a nine-year-old girl named Newt. But even these battle-hardened marines with all the latest weaponry are no match for the hundreds of aliens that have invaded the colony.
A Better Tomorrow (1986)
Genre:
Action, Thriller, Crime, Drama
An ex-gangster in Hong Kong tries to reconnect with his estranged policeman brother, but he finds that his ties to gangs are harder to break than he thought. A Better Tomorrow is a classic Hong Kong flick that is ever popular no matter the era.
The Breakfast Club (1985)
Genre:
Teen, Drama, Comedy
Five high school students from different walks of life endure a Saturday detention under a power-hungry principal. Each of the five characters has a chance to tell his or her story, making the others see them a little differently -- and when the day ends, they question whether school will ever be the same again.
Poltergeist (1982)
Genre:
Horror, Thriller, Fantasy
Strange and creepy happenings beset an average California family, the Freelings. When ghosts start communing with them through the TV, initially friendly and playful, the spirits turn unexpectedly menacing, and, when Carol Ann goes missing, Steve and Diane turn to a parapsychologist and eventually an exorcist for help.
Close Encounters (1978)
Genre:
Sci-Fi, Adventure, Mystery
Roy Neary witnesses an unidentified flying object, and even has a "sunburn" from its bright lights to prove it. Roy refuses to accept an explanation for what he saw and is prepared to give up his life to pursue the truth about UFOs.
The Godfather (1972)
Genre:
Crime, Drama
The film focuses on the powerful Italian-American crime family of Don Vito Corleone. When the don's youngest son, Michael, reluctantly joins the Mafia, he becomes involved in the inevitable cycle of violence and betrayal. Although Michael tries to maintain a healthy relationship with his wife, Kay, he is drawn deeper into the family business.
Breakfast At Tiffany's (1961)
Genre:
Romance, Melodrama, Comedy
Breakfast At Tiffany's is the story of a young woman in New York City who meets a young man when he moves into her apartment building. He is with an older woman who is very wealthy, but he wants to be a writer. She is working as an expensive escort and searching for a rich, older man to marry.
The Stranger (1946)
Genre:
Noir, Thriller, Crime, Drama, Mystery
Immediately following World War II, ex-Nazi Franz Kindler is living under a false identity as a teacher in a small Connecticut town and has even married the headmaster's daughter as part of his cover. But when one of Kindler's old German associates arrives unexpectedly in town, bringing in his wake a sly federal investigator, Kindler resorts to desperate measures to preserve his secret.
People from Gen Z might laugh at some of the movies on the list as there aren't any colour or is lacking in the area of SFX. Remember, all these works were all created when technology wasn't advance. Yes, I agree that there isn't 4K or Ultra HD, but you can't deny the magical touch that only classics can give off. Click
