Shows that were cancelled due to COVID-19

By Rachelle  /  17 Sep 2020 (Thursday)

COVID-19 has caused film releases to delay, production shoots to halt and now, shows to be cancelled.

What's worse? These shows were originally announced to be renewed before the reversal.

It’s really unfortunate that quality shows are being axed due to the pandemic, but production shutdowns have delayed everything and effectively changed the way studios are even going about filming when resuming production.

Here are some of the unlucky shows that got their renewal reversed:

I Am Not Okay With This

We are not okay with this too! In a surprise move, the streaming giant Netflix cancelled this well-received show due to the impact of COVID-19.

I Am Not Okay With This is a coming-of-age comedy drama based on a graphic novel by Charles Forsman starring Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff and Kathleen Rose Perkins.

Scripts for Season 2 were reportedly already written with the intention to head into production soon. Now it looks like that will never happen. Fortunately, you can still watch Season 1 of the series on Netflix.

Stumptown

ABC canceled Stumptown despite previously renewing the show for a second season.

Stumptown was based on the graphic novel series of the same name and starred Cobie Smulders as Dex Parios – a strong, assertive and sharp-witted veteran with a complicated love life, gambling debt and a brother to take care of in Portland, Oregon. The drama series also starred Jake Johnson and Michael Ealy.

The Society

Another of Netflix's well-received show, The Society, got the unexpected boot along with I Am Not Okay With This

The Society is a mystery teen drama that follows the story of a group of teenagers who must learn to run their own community after the rest of the population of their town disappears. Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, Sean Berdy, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jacques Colimon and Olivia DeJonge starred.

The series had already been renewed for Season 2, so the move to cancel the show comes as a bit of a shock. It was set to begin filming this month, but those plans have obviously been thwarted due to the show’s now-cancelled status. Thankfully, Season 1 is still available on Netflix for your binging pleasure.

Tosh.0

The popular commentary tv series, Tosh.0, has sadly been cancelled by Comedy Central after being renewed for four seasons back in January. The series will end after its upcoming twelfth season.

Tosh.0 is a series hosted and produced by comedian Daniel Tosh, who provides commentary on online viral video clips, society, celebrities, stereotypes, and popular culture as a whole. The tone is based on Tosh's deliberately offensive and controversial style of black comedy, observational comedy, satire, and sarcasm.

I'm Sorry

Yeah you better be! TruTV has opted not to go ahead with the previously greenlit season of scripted comedy I’m Sorry, created by and starring Andrea Savage. The well-received series had been renewed for a 10-episode third season to air in 2020.

I'm Sorry was a sitcom centered on writer Andrea Warren as she navigates motherhood, marriage, her career and her social life in suburban L.A. It also starred Tom Everett Scott and Olive Petrucci.

Let's hope no more renewal reversal happens again anytime soon.
