The year’s New Waves 2020 will celebrate the work of women creators who have been making their mark on cinematic culture. The programme shines a spotlight on women who are fearless, fierce and revolutionary, telling unusual and powerful stories, reflecting the past while evoking principles of change, necessary or desired.

With female filmmakers at the centre, the films champion new voices, approach traditional messages from fresh angles, and have the potential to positively shape the way we look at our communities.

The 2-day event, from 24-25 October, will feature short film screenings from around the region, covering a wide range of topics include representations of women, identity, culture, shared experiences, etc. Featuring - A Hand Written Poster (Dir. Eunmi Kwak), Blind Mouth (Dir. Siew-Hong Leong) and Home, and a Distant Archive (Dir. Dorothy Cheung), New Waves capture the diversity of work women have created behind the camera.

The Singapore International Film Festival is the largest and longest-running film event in Singapore that has attracted filmmakers, creators and fans alike from all over the world. Known for its programming and focus on ground-breaking Asian cinema for Singapore and the region, the SGIFF organises mentorship programmes, masterclasses and dialogues with attending filmmakers, and of course, the myriad of films to enjoy at the festival.

The 31st Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) will be held in Singapore from 26 November 2020 to 6 December 2020.
