Throwback Monday: The 5 best scenes from the one and only iconic, 'The Devil Wears Prada'.

By Shafiyqah  /  16 Aug 2021 (Monday)

THROWBACK MONDAY- Featuring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, it ventures into the life of Andrea commonly known as Andy, a young aspiring journalist who comes to New York and becomes the assistant to one of the city’s biggest editors, the ruthless and cynical Miranda Priestly.

Despite the fact that this film was made many years ago, I am confident that fashionistas will always revisit this flick. Fret not, even if you're not into ‘fashion’, you will be taking yourself on a ride as to how cut-throat the industry can be.

Working in the fashion industry, it seems as though you can never be prepared for anything. Andy didn't grasp the work environment or how the industry worked in a profession in which your physical appearance and physique is scrutinized. The key takeaways of her problem are,
  1. A recent graduate with little experience
  2. Applies for a publication in which she has done little to no research work.
She surely is in for a treat.

Also, I certainly thought she knew that anyone who worked with Miranda Priestly would almost certainly be able to secure a place at any publication. Oh goodness me, she clearly didn’t.
Every film has scenes that seem to stick in the mind more than the others.
I gladly present to you the honour of revisiting the top 5 best scenes from The Devil Wears Prada:

1. Gird your loins!

This scene was epic.
It shows the audience what kind of film they are about to witness. Personally, this was one of those scenes that symbolises a certain kind of act that sets the tone for the rest of the film. While most of us posed the questions of, “Why are everyone changing shoes?”, “Why are some throwing away their junk food?”, “Isn’t this not normal?” and so forth. When it comes to Miranda Priestly, though, that's not the case. Working at an editor's office, and especially for a fashion publication, you'd expect everyone to be 'fashionable' and prepared. Think again after watching this scene.

2. The Blue Sweater

Andy, on the other hand, saw the fashion industry as a peculiar gimmicky veil in her mind. As an example, consider the following scene. While most of us may empathize with Andy casually considering the two belts as the same color and piece, Miranda Priestly, a lady with solid experience and knowledge in the palms of her hands, sees things differently.

3. Andy gets a makeover

Yes, Andy did get a makeover with the help of Nigel, Miranda Priestly's close confidant. I'd also like to point out that the stylist did an outstanding job styling Anne Hathaway. Her ensembles were all iconic throughout the film!

4. Miranda’s self- disclosure

As tough as Miranda appears to be, this scene demonstrates that no matter how strong a person is, they will always have a vulnerable side.

5. Everyone wants to be us’

This is a very self-explanatory scene. Miranda exits the vehicle after a brief conversation with Andy. She went on to announce that she was stepping down as editor in chief. What does it make of her if it didn't come as a surprise to everyone? The city's well-known editor in chief is stepping down.It clearly exhibits that even though you're at the top, you're always irreplaceable.

After all these years, I finally realized something from this movie.

I was young when I first saw this film. Miranda made me feel sorry for her. Why? Family and friends, in my opinion, always take precedence above glamour and recognition. Miranda Priestly can teach us all a thing or two. Now that I'm older, I realized Miranda put in a lot of effort to get to where she is. She has everything she seeks. Even as someone who has it everything, though, not everything in her life is flawless. She tries to be a good mother and wife while devoting her time and effort to her work. Her marriage, however, is in jeopardy as her husband is having an affair. But, aside from that, she is the type of woman who proves that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.Or, to put it another way, just because someone appears to have everything doesn't mean everything is OK. As a result, I've come to believe that finding a good balance is crucial.
