Netflix unveils its star-studded movie preview for 2022!

By Lucas Chia  /  04 Feb 2022 (Friday)

Netflix has released their A-list celebrity-filled feature slate, totalling up to a whopping 86 films to look out for this year!

Including 61 live-action films, five animated films, 17 non-English language features, and – for the first time– three anime films; we are absolutely pumped knowing that we'll be well-entertained in months to come.

Filmmakers Judd Apatow, Noah Baumbach, Guillermo del Toro, Paul Feig, Jean-Pierre Jeaunet, Richard Linklater, Tyler Perry, and Nora Twomey have films lined up in this year's releases, as Dev Patel, Kenya Barries, Carrie Cracknell, JJ Perry, Matthew Reilly, and Millicent Shelton make their respective directorial debuts.

Here's a look at some of our top picks to watch out for this year:

1. The Gray Man

Rumored to be a “James Bond–level franchise-starter,” per Deadline, The Gray Man is based on the 2009 novel by Mark Greaney. The CIA’s most skilled mercenary—whose true identity is known to none—accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets, a psychopathic former colleague puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins. Directed by the Russo Brothers, the preview teases a sneak peek of stars Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. The film boasts the largest production budget so far by Netflix.

2. Knives Out 2

Knives Out 2 sees Detective Benoit Blanc traveling to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects. In the follow up to Rian Johnson's Knives Out, Daniel Craig reprises his role as detective Benoit Blanc. Netflix had acquired the rights to two sequels of the mystery thriller last April, and we are totally psyched to check them out!

3. The School for Good and Evil

In The School for Good and Evil, best friends Sophie and Agatha find themselves on opposing sides of a modern fairy tale when they’re swept away into an enchanted school where young heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance of good and evil. Based on the bestselling book series by Soman Chainani, the film stars Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington - who are looking absolutely fabulous in the film's preview!

4. Day Shift

Jamie Foxx plays a hard working blue collar dad in Day Shift. He just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters. Directed by JJ Perry, Foxx is also on board as an executive producer while juggling his role as a vampire slayer.

5. Enola Holmes 2

Now a detective-for-hire like her infamous brother, Enola Holmes 2 sees the rookie investigator take on her first official case to find a missing girl, as the sparks of a dangerous conspiracy ignite a mystery that requires the help of friends — and Sherlock himself — to unravel. Harry Bradbeer returns to direct the feature film, while Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill reprise their roles in the adaptation of the book series by Nancy Springer.
