Following an impressive performance during the sneaks, Michelle Chong’s directorial debut Already Famous 《一泡而红》 clinched the Best Performing New Movie title during its opening weekend (1 - 4 December), with S$415,000 gross box office, ahead of other movies which opened during the same weekend; fantasy comedy animation, Arthur Christmas (S$178,000) and White Vengeance 《鸿门宴》(S$55,000) directed by Daniel Lee and starring Leon Lai.
It is ranked 3rd behind Hollywood blockbusters Puss in Boots and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 which grossed S$586,000 and S$553,000 respectively, in the weekend box office ranking. Both movies are in their 2nd week of release.
First-time Director Michelle Chong says, “I feel very touched and grateful that we are so close in box office with the two established Hollywood Franchises in our opening week, despite having fewer than half their number of cinema halls. I thank the local audience for their support, and I hope we can continue to have good results.”
Produced by Huat Films, ALREADY FAMOUS is distributed by Scorpio East Pictures and Cathay-Keris Films in Singapore and is currently showing in Cathay Cineplexes, Golden Village, Shaw and We Cinemas. Click to view
