With visionary director Hwang Dong-hyuk at the helm again, the new season will also welcome back beloved characters like the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and the Recruiter (Gong Yoo). Squid Game took the world by storm upon its 2021 premiere, quickly becoming one of Netflix's most-watched series around the world. Garnering over 1.65 billion viewing hours watched by more than 142 million households in its first 28 days, the series took the #1 spot across 94 countries. Recognised for its cinematic quality, Squid Game was lauded for its refreshing social commentary of a modern society fraught with intense competition, all told against the backdrop of nostalgic childhood games, turning all things Squid Game — its art, music, fashion, and games — into a global cultural phenomenon.

Beyond its massive viewership, the series also made history by winning six Primetime Emmy Awards — including Outstanding Directing for Hwang Dong-hyuk and Outstanding Lead Actor for Lee Jung-jae — and earned prestigious accolades including a Gotham Award for ‘Breakthrough Series — Long Form’, the People’s Choice Award for ‘Bingeworthy Show of the Year’, and a Special Award at the 2021 AFI Awards.

In addition to unveiling first look images from the second season, the popular streaming site has also showcased the heart-pounding clip that features Gi-hun making a critical decision at the end of Season 1 in the NEXT ON NETFLIX 2024: The Series and Films Preview sizzle reel.
