The Projector Bids Farewell to Cineleisure and Returns to its Roots at Golden Mile Tower

By Riin  /  01 Aug 2025 (Friday)

The Projector says goodbye to its screens at Cineleisure and returns home to its original space at Golden Mile Tower from 6 August. Final screenings at Cineleisure will be on 3 August.

In December 2023, Golden Village and The Projector entered into a collaborative arrangement at Cineleisure to offer filmgoers a distinctive film experience. The result has been an eclectic smorgasbord of fan events, themed gala premieres and interactive film screenings.

Following the announcement of the en bloc at Golden Mile Tower concluding without a sale, The Projector returns its focus to the Brutalist building, while Golden Village takes over operations at the Cineleisure site.
The move home will allow The Projector to focus on what it does best: cultivating a distinctive, community-driven cinema experience. Golden Mile Tower has always been a cornerstone of the local indie cinema’s brand, and investing in its growth aligns with the filmhouse’s long-term vision to champion film, culture and independent voices in Singapore.

“We opened The Projector with a dream and a handful of indie films, and over the years, our audiences have made it into something far greater than we ever imagined,” said Karen Tan, founder of The Projector. “Now, with the en bloc no longer moving forward, we have the chance to return home. This isn’t just a move, it’s a return to our roots, a rewilding of sorts.”

The Projector’s move back to Golden Mile Tower won’t dull its colourful programming. If anything, its curation will be even sharper. Audiences can continue to look forward to a programming slate planned by and for cinephiles. August sees The Projector presenting MAJULAH CINEMA!, a showcase of Singapore directors for SG60, a Paul Thomas Anderson retrospective and a 50th anniversary re-release of JAWS, among others.
