Slava's Snowshow Review: There's A Storm Coming, People!
By
InCinemas
/
31 Aug 2012 (Friday)
You can't just forget all about Slava's Snowshow after watching it. InCinemas was invited by
Base Entertainment Asia
to the opening night of Slava's Snowshow and I must admit that I was startled by the final act when the crackling thunder boomed across the Marina Bay Sands' Theatre and as the atmosphere in the theatre made a 180-degrees change, a thought with reference to
The Dark Knight Rises
came to me:
"There's a storm coming, people.. I would better brace myself because it looks as though when it hits, I'm going to wonder how I had not appreciated the cob webs* earlier and leave so little webs for the people beside me.."
The truth is, the anticipation of the artificial storm is really exciting and the experience a memorable one! Blinded by the huge bright light (I suppose it could mean the sun in the show), the audience in the stall level gets hit by the friendly snow blizzard that comes with thousands and thousands of snow confetti carried by strong powerful winds! The fog and the artificial snow, visible to the eyes, spread right across the entire audience so that everyone at the same level gets an idea of what it's like.
Of course, if you're seated near the stage, you'll probably feel how much
fun
the clowns on stage are having.. Watch this
video clip
[Spoiler alert] and go to 1:10 minute mark to check out the storm!
And it's not over yet! Balls of different colours and sizes join the party next!
It's amazing how everyone, regardless of your age, yearned to reach out for the balls no matter where you are seated. Imagine this magical moment where they were, adults and kids alike, looking up into the 'sky' that is filled with snowy confetti falling slowly to the ground, and gigantic colourful balls get bounced along by the audience, passing and sharing the fun together in the same room...
(More information on Slava's Snowshow at Sand Theatres @ Marina Bay Sands)
I would have attempted to capture that if photography had been allowed but unfortunately, it's not. Moreover, if you divide your attention elsewhere, you might not know what's coming your way! Not just the balls but the snow confetti as well!
Kids and adults were seen gathering up the white confetti on the ground and redirecting them at one another! It's unbelievable how Slava Snow Show, created by renowned Russian clown from Cirque De Soleil’s Alegria, Slava Polunin, brings the inner child out in everyone! It's as though the fog that spread through the theatre in the storm earlier had infected the lot and bonded everyone towards one particular goal, which was to have fun!
By the way, you're free to roam/go and have fun after the storm and most stayed behind for at least 10 minutes to enjoy the night.
Lasting approximately 75 minutes, including the short intermission of 10 minutes, you can expect plenty of surprises even if you have seen the
TV clip
. There are more interactions during the show, especially if you get yourself seated within the premium areas (yellow coloured).
The clowns don't really speak and they entertain the audience through their body movement. The humour seems more accessible for the ones who are younger at heart. Laughter that echoed through the theatre belonged mainly to the kids and occasionally, it became infectious.
Never have I thought that one could actually move by stepping on the shoulders of the narrow seats in the Sand Theatre (There isn't really much leg room in the seats and you're bound to hit the knees of others if you're moving in or out of the rows). The clowns managed the feat and they have done a good job, weaving through the crowd and cracking us up with their unpredictable teasings, which included wet and dry ones.
Slava's Snowshow is most suitable for family with kids**. Now that the September school holiday is here, how about an unforgettable 'snowy' theatrical expience at Marina Bay Sands?
* A huge piece of cotton-blanket was brought over the head of the audience and everyone passed the 'cob-web' towards the back. Thankfully, no one got caught in it (or maybe not?) as I raised my hands up high and passed the web as quickly as I could.
**ADVISORY - Not recommended for children under the age of 8 years old.
Slava’s Snowshow is now available until 9 September 2012.
