It's A Great Great World InCinemas 27 Jan 2011 today! Will you be watching it? The story relates back to the history of Singapore, the Great World, recognized as one of the most iconic world among the other 2, Gay World and New World, and as a Singaporean, will you not be curious to know what it used to be like? Likewise, just by looking at the number of local artistes' participation as seen in the poster, with many of whom set their first movie debut, one would have been fascinated to a large extent to catch their performances on the big screen.
"Showtime! Showtime!," Huang Wen Yong exclaims excitedly. During the press conference held in Great World City's GV Garden Foyer on 26 Jan 2011, a meaningful place to introduce the movie to the media, the atmosphere was as though back into the 60s when our local artistes appear in their 'uniform' as seen in the movie. And some credit must also be given to the decorations in the Garden Foyer.
The artistes attended includes Olivia Ong, Henry This, Auntie Lai Ming, Tay Yin Yin, Yvonne Lim, Ah Nan, Joanne Peh, Zhang Zhen Huan, Xiang Yun, Huang Wen Yong, Guo Liang, Paige Chua, the Bao Bei Sisters, Chew Chor Meng, Apple Hong, Cheng Shu Cheng, Kym Ng, Ben Yeo, Marcus Chin, Bryan Wong and Zhang Yaodong. The director Kelvin Tong gave the media a warm welcome and InCinemas is happy to have spoken to director, who has been praised by many to be very kind and friendly.
Kelvin shares with us his thoughts when asked who left the deepest impression in the movie. "That will be Chew Chor Meng," He replies with a smile. "I've wanted to work with him since ages ago. By right, given his status and seniority, he should've done about 6 films already. So when I've got the chance to do this film, he's the first person I thought of. In fact, the role is written for him."
Kelvin Tong is also one of the writers for the movie. So did he also add the role of Auntie Lucy? The answer is yes. Bearing in mind that the role requires a surprise element but bringing the seriousness of the story, Dennis Chew's Auntie Lucy came to his mind as he believes it will be interesting for the audience to see a 1941 Auntie Lucy. Kelvin notes that this part of history is worth telling and that we can't expect other foreign directors to take up the job. So as a Singaporean, he's glad that the opportunity came.
